Hey everyone.

I’ve been slowly getting to know a girl over the last few months. The other week I took a gamble and met her over lunch for an honesty chat – I basically told her that I liked her but that I wasn’t ready for a new relationship just yet. She told me she wasn’t ready for anything serious either. After we got the ‘serious bit’ out of the way, we ended up chatting and having fun for nearly 3 hours (long time!). I left the cafe feeling good about it all – I felt that, although neither us wanted anything serious just yet, there was definitely a mutual attraction (she looked pleased by my news, plus the long chat was fairly flirty and fun). We’d been flirting a fair amount prior to this meeting.

I sent a fairly innocent text the following day saying that I’d enjoying having lunch with her and that we should hang out more often. She hasn’t replied to this message after nearly week. Is it possible that by coming clean with her I bought myself a one-way ticket into the friend zone? This would surprise me. Or maybe she thinks I’m after a relationship (even though I was very clear that this wasn’t the case)? Ideally I’d like to enter something casual with her before (maybe) growing into something more serious. How can I achieve this without pushing too much? Currently my plan is to not make any contact and see what happens. She’s a girl who likes to be chased somewhat but I’d be disappointed if she didn’t feel like she wanted to reply to my message.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom!

I'd wait a few more days, maybe stretching it out to a week and a half from the last text you sent. if no response, I would send a casual "hey, how you doing" without mentioning the previous text. If that doesn't get anything out of her, move on. She's playing games, especially if she's the type that likes to be chased.

Maybe she lied when she answered that she too wasn't interested in something serious, and in reality, the fact that you told her that you want something casual made her decide she should move on to someone else. So even if she liked you, if you two in fact have different goals, or she thinks so, she might have decided against continuing with you. Of course, that's just one of the scenarios.

This is certainly possible.
