Use those long lunches to start putting something together now. That way you will be on your way to establishing a new career without the risk of being jobless for so long. If you do get fired and don't get the unemployment, this should minimize the amount of time you spend without an income.

It may mean you have to endure a period of even more stress. But if you tell yourself you're doing it so you can leave this job behind, hopefully you'll feel energized. Being in a negative work environment makes every hour much more exhausting than it would be spent somewhere else. When you're working for yourself, a lot of your stress will be resolved, and you won't resent the times you have to put in extra hours.

The walk of shame you have to endure is not worth getting fired for. I got laid off from a job 15 years ago and even though it was a lay-off, packing up your stuff and walking out with the remaining employees watching you is a terrible experience to go though.
