Hi Everyone,

I spent a VERY stressful and depressing 10-day working holiday at this cheap hotel (that I was locked into for financial reasons) waking up to the sound of trucks beeping when they reverse every morning at 5am as they began construction work behind the hotel on another building. I asked to be moved to the other side of the hotel, but they said they didn’t have a 10-day block in any other rooms.

Anyway, ever since then (it’s been a year now) I’ve been hearing that truck-reversing beeping sound in my head, especially when I first wake up, but also at other times when I’m sure there is not really one beeping.

So, am I going crazy and hearing things, or was it such a traumatic experience that it somehow has been ‘burned’ into my brain and keeps re-occurring, or am I getting “tinititus”, or am I just plain nuts?

Cheers :)

Call me captian obvious but I'd say go see your doctor and take it from there. He will have insight into your situation and can refer you to someone who is familiar with these types of conditions.

Good luck!

Have you been on any medications since that time? Certain meds will cause tinnitus. It can also be a sign of high blood pressure - take a look out on WebMD or another health site - it might scare you enough to do as the Pirate says - go to the Doctor!

hey average. seriously, this happened to me.

it was mozart's 40th symphony that did it. specifically the first movement.

i was 14 when i first heard it and that christmas my mum bought me a copy on cassette. over the holidays i played it something like 8,000 times back to back and for the next three or four months wherever i was and whatever i was doing i could hear it playing in the back of my mind. drove me quite bonkers it did.

now at around the same time i saw the movie amadeus for the first time and i plunged into a ferocious depression for weeks, driving my parents up the wall until they threatened to haul me to a shrink. it was seeing them putting his lifeless body into a gaping hole in the ground, a communal grave no less. such a great man in with all those stinking corpses. way, waaaaaaay upsetting. hormones were all over the place.

but it passed.

a year or so ago i started getting tinnitus, only mildly, and connected to some eye problem that's connected to, according to my doc, spending too much time on a computer. go figure.

now although tinnitus can sound like bleeps, squeaks, rustles or whooshes, it doesn't usually sound like a truck reversing. and even less frequently, i'd wager, like mozart's 40th symphony. i'd say it was most likely trauma related which means it'll pass in its own sweet time.

it's still my favourite piece of music by the way so no lasting damage.
