MWDad Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I wasn't sure where to post this, so I went with General. Anyway, I'll try to keep this reasonably brief. My girlfriend and I had a child almost a year ago and have been living together ever since. Things aren't great with us, but they're certainly manageable. I know she had been in contact with an ex a while back, who had sent her a semi-inappropriate text once (my girlfriend told me about it; I didn't "find" it or anything like that). I told her that we are a family now and that she should stop talking to him if he's going to be like that. She agreed and according to her, hadn't spoken to him in months. That is, until recently, when she had me use her email to send a form to an agency that had requested it (she was dictating the letter to me, as I type really quickly). I sent the email and immediately noticed an email in her list with this guy's name on it. Curiosity got the best of me and I clicked it. My girlfriend had written how much she misses him and wonders if he'd ever take her back, even though she has a kid now, etc. WTF! My heart started racing and I closed it; I couldn't look at it anymore. She didn't notice that I had seen it. What should I do? I will certainly approach her about it. My baby is everything to me; I just can't bear the tought of being without her for even a day. Great timing too, as I had a lot of big things planned for my girlfriend's first mother's day. Ugh...
Treasa Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I'm always tentative about replying to threads with small children involved, because my natural inclination is to put the child first, but I would probably tell her, "I know I shouldn't have looked at your email, but I did, and I saw what you wrote to (dude's name). How are we going to arrange things so that our child has both her parents close to her at all times? I'm not going to be used as a backup." 2
