Eire82 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I've recently (6 months) broken up my ex partner of 4 years. We have a 3 year old daughter together and she has a 6 year old boy from a previous relationship. I bought a house 2 years ago and she contributed about £5K to the deposit. Aside from that contribution she never financially contributed. I bailed her out of about £7K worth of debt when she was pregnant to try to reduce any stress. During our time living together she was a full time mum. She has since moved home with her parents after our relationship became impossible. She says she is entitled to her deposit money back (which Im happy to return) and "a lot more". Before going to a solicitor I thought id ask you - what is she entitled to in this case?
CelticGibson Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 You need to lawyer up as soon as possible. I don't think you should be asking for legal advice on the Internet. No matter what advice you may receive, it will not be accurate and could cost you in the long run. Get your lawyer and I wish you the best. 2
tbf Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 If you're in Northern Ireland as your username and usage of pounds sterling might indicate, common-law marriage isn't recognized in the U.K. Definitely contact a lawyer. http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/information-and-services/government-citizens-and-rights/your-rights-and-responsibilities/marriage-civil-partnerships-and-cohabitation.htm

She is definitely entitled to child support for your daughter, so factor that in at a minimum.
Chi townD Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I would only think child support and what can be proven on paper. Probably the 5k, but if you can prove that you bailed her out of 7k of debt, then the 5k could be voided. Talk to a lawyer about it all.
