Leegh Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I can understand why someone who has been married a relatively short period of time will divorce, but I know of several couples who had been married about 30 years who had divorced. Wouldn't they know after 30 years if they are compatible? Is it that some couples had wanted a divorce for a number of years, but didn't want to rock the boat? Why do you think people divorce after 30 or more years? Is it also that they just don't have enough energy to go through all of the red tape of getting a divorce, since they are older? Thanks for any comments!
CarrieT Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 The couples I have known who have divorced after so many years have done so for a variety of reasons. The one I have heard the most: Couples waiting until their children are grown and on their own and the Empty Nest syndrome shows that without the raising of the children, the two parents have little in common to keep them together. 2

Thanks for any comments! My H divorced his xW after 30 years because the kids were old enough to handle the D. 1
Mr. Lucky Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Couples waiting until their children are grown and on their own and the Empty Nest syndrome shows that without the raising of the children, the two parents have little in common to keep them together. I think this is true. If you have 2,3,4 kids at home, life is an endless merry-go-round of sports practice, homework, appointments and school functions. Heck, many of those days my greatest achievement was matching socks. And when you're so focused on the kids, it can become every man - and woman - for himself. And then one day the circus finally leaves town and it's you and this slightly familiar stranger. From there marriages seem to go one of two ways - you reconnect and they bloom anew or they crash...
