Not every guy will get the really hot, smart, kind, faithful girl.

Incredible as it may seem, some of us don't want a "hot" woman, because we know everyone else will think she's a trophy, and other men will try to hit on her.

And not every girl will get the tall, good-looking, alpha guy with a lot of money.

Especially in this economy.

Which begs the question: would women rather date the high school dropout who started his own business and retired in his 40s, or the guy with a PhD who has to be a supermarket cashier to make ends meet?

Anyone..?

that struggled with getting a job and even a place to live.

Ummm....this is not uncommon with the economy the way it is...if that is unattractive to you, you might want to try keeping in tune with the world situation. Job losses, poor economy, etc.

I am. Call me shallow but I need to be physically attracted to someone in order to pursue a romantic relationship. I've been single for a year now, I def want to get back out there but I literally find NO ONE attractive.

I have a female friend that just turned 50, she's cute, real funny and comfortable to be around but she has put on a few pounds.

She has had quite a few guys from Meetup ask her out, but she claims ....even though they're great guys and would be a good man to a woman....she isn't attracted to them.

I mentioned to her, "Hon, you just turned 50, you're getting any younger, so you might want to start rearranging your criteria."

She agreed to it, so she's making an effort at least to date men she wouldn't normally date when she was younger. Otherwise she might as well find herself alone and in her 50's.

Some people have to settle.

Right, and not every guy will meet that long silly "grocery list" of unrealistic expectations.

I knew of a woman that eventually threw out that list just prior to meeting her current boyfriend.

Being overly picky when it comes to dating is always a bad thing for both men and women. You don't meet as many people and your relationships are always superficial or lopsided.

There are very few men I'd fancy a relationship with, more often than not I meet someone I find physically attractive and I find out that he has passive-aggressive traits or has addiction issues or can't keep his penis in his pants.

That's because you have bad taste in men.

I kind of agree but think it's more a function of perception, the qualities they find attractive and what they think model-hot or alpha means.

I can't really afford to be picky. It's not like I have a line of women outside my door waiting to date me...

Aside from physical/sexual attraction, my key qualities I look for are:

-Stable job/professional/values education

-An overall good person

-Compabitible with me.

I don't think that's unrealistic. I'm noticing that a lot of men on OLD can't spell, don't have jobs, or don't care where their life is going.

I dated someone in college that I had NO sexual attraction to. He also was one of those guys that had no ambition and didn't care about his career, which made it harder. I tried to force the attraction, and it never happened. 10 years later, he is now working for his father's subway. Let's just say I'm glad I didn't marry him.

Some people just hook you. That's often the hottest type of attraction.

Yep.

And if they hook me, later on I tend to go back and attempt to figure out, what was so hooking about them. Ditto if I manage to hook somebody. I think it's good to know not only what works on others, but also what works on oneself.

I'm picky about certain things - physically speaking I'm quite lenient (skinny or big girls have their beauty to them) but in terms of character too.

I'm a sucker for intellectual/creative women with a fiery streak .

The second girl I had sex with was a tiny bit bigger than the girl who took the V (beautifully thick, big legs, boobs and all). Yes it was fantastic!

It's amazing how much my preferences have changed. Another thing I was thinking about that clearly limited my options was hair color.

Not only did I have a preference of athletic/fit/slim women, but I also ONLY dated brunettes. Both have changed, but, man did I limit myself to potential partners. That's in the past. Thank goodness...

Picky? Yeah, I am.

1. You can't be cruel constantly. The women around me often gives off that vibe that tells me they are very close to being capable of committing murder if you piss them off. In other words, I could find myself in my death bed if I try to stand up against any one of them. If the way you want males to be attracted to you is give off that, "Mess with me the wrong way and you're dead" vibe, then allow me to be very afraid and to stay far away from you.

2. You can't be obese. I'm simply not attracted to them. In fact, I can't see myself being friends with one.

3. You can't smoke.

4. You can drink but you can't be an alcoholic.

5. You have to be at least decent looking unless you are fine with a non-sex life. Considering that I'm a virgin at my age of 26, I can't miss what I never had.

1-4 have to be met since I refuse to do these things myself. If I do, you have full permission to kill me on sight because I'm too long gone for me to allow living any longer.

#5 is obviously open-ended so I leave that choice to the female in question.

Thank you. I agree with you, as I don't understand why some people think that acting like an angry animal makes them look powerful. Acting angry and mean towards me just gives me more reason to stay away from you and lose respect from you. It's a shame that today's society sees being kind and polite as "wimpy and passive".

There's a quote that says "You can attract more bees with honey and not vinegar." At the end of the day, I would rather be with a nice and respectful person than someone that's going to scream at me.

I'm not picky at all about who I'm attracted to. I'm attracted to a lot of men and enjoy being attracted to them and vice versa. It's fun.

However, I'm very picky about who I will date. Being attracted to someone doesn't mean shyte. That's just hormones. Best not to take it seriously.

You will be surprised how many women I ignored because they met one of those dealbreakers.

There is a reason why my issue is that I can't find any woman worth approaching.
