HoneyBadgerDontCare - First, you are never too old to take pre-cautions; which the reasons as to why some take more cautions than others are as variable as the people themselves, and second - I have my own personal unique reasons for my own measures that I elect to take - before meeting anyone.

As I have no idea of how I appear to others, and look hideous from most angles other than a straight-ahead shot, I realize OLD would be deceitful on my part. Which leaves me with real life, which leaves me with failure. :lmao:

How can there be another way of saying "you look different than your photos." I thought I was being tactful when I told him that it wasn't a matter of being more / less attractive - it was just different: like two perfectly cut diamonds, but just a different shape.

If a guy looked like Ryan Gosling in his photos, but when he showed up he looked like Ryan Reynolds, that difference would NOT make me act stand-offish towards him. It would make me drool, either way.

Telling him you were stand-offish because he looked difference, and using celebrities to explain the difference, was a slap in the face. You lack tact.

Andrew and I chatted for six months. He told me he was in love with me, which I hesitated on returning because we didn't met yet at that point

Yeahhhh. So I've seen this before. I'm thinking he's a highly neurotic guy who can't separate imagination and reality very well. I can't see how anyone can "love" someone without meeting them. Seems juvenile and disconnected from reality. As was once again proven on your side, with the big disappointment at the first meeting. Even if it hadn't been looks, it's often something, some disappointment for at least one of the 2 people involved.

he looked like Thomas Gibson on his profile and looked more like Tom Hanks in person.

I had to look up who Thomas Gibson was. :lmao: I guess this comparison was an insult even though Tom Hanks is a famous actor who has starred in romantic comedies. Anyway, it was a bad idea to state it like that. People almost always have a negative view of their looks, especially in a situation where they know someone didn't like their looks. So anyone you name in that situation, they will think of the worst qualities of the person you named and envision that that's what you think of them.

On his part, he sounds childish and bitter about you not meeting HIS unrealistic expectations. In your case, that you weren't the perfect, kind and loving partner he imagined in his head that he "loved" before even meeting you.

In short, you made big mistakes, but he's probably a basket case anyway.
