emmie2 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 So I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice here's my story: I studied abroad in the USA and met somebody and we were in a long distance serious relationship for about a year since me leaving the US. We spent lots of time flying back and forth and I plan on doing a Phd in the US so it was always a temporary situation while i applied for graduate studies. However just over a month ago he broke up with me as couldn't travel to see me in the summer as he needed to focus on his studies. I completely understood this and we decided to go on a cooling off period/break up. We were very in love, planned our futures, spent time with each others families and all that stuff. Since this I learnt that he had been seeing a girl, he told me it was not serious but then said it was and yesterday he updated on facebook that he is in a relationship with this girl. I am very shocked by this it has been no time at all since we broke up and i have never experienced anyone doing this to me before. It hurts a lot that he would just openly admit to being in a new relationship not try to hide it for a while at least. Mutual friends have told me that his parents are meeting her in the summer and they are shocked by the speed of his new relationship and don't understand his behaviour at all. He did work with this girl and they had been to a few parties together so maybe this is something that had been going on a while.(He said absolutely not but I don't think you can just randomly be in a relationship with someone). Long distance relationships take a lot of effort and maybe he wanted something a lot easier. We were very in love he would write me letters, cards and tell everyday how much he loved me up until a few weeks ago. I just find it bizarre that he is in such a serious relationship so quickly...is this normal ?
