travelonic Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 I was wondering if it was possible to quantify odds or likelihood of meeting someone who was physically ridiculously similar, had the same sets of behavioral issues, habits, tendencies, expressed specific quirks the exact same way, and even had the exact same range of body weight? I know it is possible - I've met, and even dated somebody like that [but due to her inexperience in dating, and a lot of other issues, things went sour after 13 months ], but how rare is that really? How would you quantify such information, data, and go about figuring out how likely or not meeting such a person is?
Object_a Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Just as a point of formal logic it's very likely indeed. The more you have in common, the more factors there are that make it likely that you'll end up in the same places at the same time or that you'll be drawn to the same social groups and meet that way. It's one reason why dating advice columns always tell people to take up a hobby rather than just cruising bars.
DannyMason Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I recently encountered an online dating profile of a woman on OKCupid. We match at like 93%. Her facial structure is creepily similar to my half-sisters but my match has the same hair and eye colors as I do so she arguably looks even more like me. She's pursuing a field of science professionally that I dabble in as a hobby. I'm pursuing a field of science professionally that she dabbles in as a hobby. We're both mid-twenties virgins. If only she didn't live almost 4,000 mile away. So, basically, if real life fails, try online dating.
