I had a situation a while ago with this girl that I have known for a couple of years. Mind you she is a waitress and I have never asked out a waitress before because as far as I'm concerned they are just paid to be nice to you and anything and everything for them is getting a better tip.

So she has thrown me for a loop a few times. For a long time I thought she was seeing someone that worked there. So one night I was pretty loaded and we were talking and she told me that she didn't have a boyfriend. And I said I thought you were going out with the kitchen guy. And then she said well yes and no sort of not really.

She has been kind of hot and cold like this. Green light, red light, yellow light, I have no idea.

Then things got real awkward. One night I was with my friend having a few beers and she came to our table just talking with us. I thought she had left and I was talking to my friend but she was just standing beside me. So I turned my head and she was looking right at me. And I kind of locked eyes with her and I didn't know what to do. So we stared at each other for about 10 seconds. Then she walked away and my friend says what on earth was that? And I said I have no idea.

A week later my friend said that when she walked away she seemed pissed off. And I was like why would she be pissed off. Because I looked at her and I thought she was pretty and I didn't know what to do. Look away, don't look away, say something.

Now we don't even talk and avoid looking at each other. There is like tension now. As far as I know I'm thinking she is pissed off at me. But why? For looking at her. She looked at me. I just turned my head. I was not expecting her to be standing there so close to me staring right at me.

Any advice. Should I just forget it. Say something. I don't know, it's just become so awkward now. She is acting funny around me and well I guess I am too. But for me its obvious that I do like her. And the more I like someone the more shy I become.

I don't know if she's pissed, but if a guy was drunk and asking me about my relationship, and then staring at me, I'd feel really weird. That is serious social awkwardness.

It's good to smile and be laid back. People like that.

It seems like there is no indication that she might be into you too. Its usually find that if you find that a situation is awkward, you change behaviors (act weird/etc) that usually transfers onto the other people involved and before you know it everyone in that situation is being awkward and weird. She may just be creeped out at this point as the above poster has mentioned...in the effort to subdue this awkward incident you might as well just ask her out and get it over with ;)
