El Brujo Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I got an e-mail from PoF, tonight they're having a meetup at some swank dive in the marina about 3 miles from me. It's pretty pathetic when OLDSs try to do their own meetups. If you volunteer to host an event for them, they give you a whole list of things you're not allowed to do... it's even worse than hosting a speed dating event for the speed dating companies (I know because I applied and got a copy of their manual). Might as well just go freelance. Even if hosting it isn't your thing, I've been to some of those OLD-sponsored meetups and they are DEATHLY DULL. Great, I guess, if you're a boring, shallow person who drinks like a fish. The problem, I learned, is that too many people who host events in the singles & dating scene have blinders on. They don't think beyond the bar/nightclub scene. This is even a problem with a lot of meetup groups which are indie. OTOH all of the meetups where I've met the smartest, most interesting, and (to me) attractive women, have been the indie ones hosted by people who freelance and shape the events any way they want to, because there's no corporate HQ to fire them. Costume parties, potlucks, geek gamers, karaoke... I've had a better time at all of those than going to some nightclub and getting totally ignored by women for a couple of hours. My point is... OLDSs just don't get it. By trying to do their own meetups, they're tryng to be something they're not. And you know what happens when you or I try that.
outsidethebox Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 OP, your post has so many things that I don't understand. And if I'm the only one that doesn't understand then I'm more out of the loop than I realized. What are you not allowed to do if you host an event for OLD's, what does it mean to host an event for OLD's, and what does going freelance mean in this context of hosting events?
mortensorchid Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Well, whatever the case may be, it seems that it was a tried and failed event or effort. This is why I have given up. No matter where it is I seem to turn or try, I keep encountering lousy dead ends and those who burn me. Still, there's an A for effort on whatever it is that others try. Maybe it happens for some, but I am not one of them.
Author El Brujo Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 For some reason, the people who run dating services seem to think there's no such thing as someone who's both single and sober. 1
