Rubix123 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 So my boyfriend and I have our Skypes or phone calls near enough every night, and he keeps falling asleep on me, we always plan to have a long Skype usually (unless the nets gone down) for like 3/4 hours but recently we have been and then he falls asleep not even an hour into the conversation I end up having a go at him, I don't mean to... I mean yeah it was very cute at first but now it's just really p**sing me off. Sorry to sound like a b*tch :/ just I miss him so much and we have to wait most of the day til we can Skype as we both have university or either have our days planned out or busy some nights which can sometimes over ride our Skype times too I don't mind that he has a life apart from me but somews it just feels like he doesn't really care I just feel like horrible and I'm sorry but it really upsets me and he says he is really tired, and I know he is we have tried earlier calls etc but they sometimes end up just the same we tend to Skype and call as were laying in bed as it is the only private spaces in our houses where we live. He often sleeps through the day too so it's not like its lack of sleep, he says he's very tired and often gets snappy too as do I when I get p*ssed off at him am I know I shouldn't cause I love him I'm just fed up of it now its not like its a few days or a few weeks I though it may of been when it started but now it's going into months. We have talked about it but we can never really get something solved to work it out or what to do an d its really stressing us both out cause he wants to be able to stay up and talk to me and I don't blame him I just get so upset and I really just want him to be able to spend a few hors talking to me properly rather than falling asleep on me, I really don't think it's too much to ask of. :/ maybe I am wrong...and being selfish.
january2011 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) 3-4 hours of just talking every night? If he's tired, throughout the day as well, has he had a check up recently with his doctor? To be honest, it's a lot to ask and to expect of him if you want 3-4 hours of talking and attention focused on you. My SO and I are on Skype for extended periods of time every day, but we don't spend all that time talking. We're usually getting on with our lives and are "hanging out" with each other on Skype. We also sleep-Skype, so neither of us minds when one of us falls asleep. Given the time difference, it would be impractical to expect otherwise. It sounds like his schedule is not sustainable at this pace. Something will have to give. I suspect that it won't be his studies that he will give up, but most likely it will be his relationship with you. It would mean that he can focus on his life without being nagged to spend 3-4 hours out of his evening schedule on a relationship that's started to become not fun. So, I suggest you work on this and find a solution that meets both your needs. For example, spending more time at the weekends together and less time on the weekday nights so that he can get his rest. It will mean that you'll have to be more understanding about his needs for rest. Alternatively, perhaps this is an indication that the two of you are not compatible and you need to find someone who is able to give the attention that you need. Edited April 17, 2013 by january2011
Author Rubix123 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 I must tell you that my boyfriend and I are mutually agreeing to our 3-4 hour Skypes, he just falls asleep all the darn time and its annoying, we do hang out as much as poss, but with the distance in a relationship we try to Skype each other for at least these hours after we have had all day to focus on other things such as uni work. And really he would never leave me so that's out the question. All this question is really about is how we can resolve this problem... But no he hasn't seen a doctor, although his family do expect him up at 6am every day!
