After 6 months, several documentation issues, and a lot of back and forth, immigration finally accepted my application for a partner resident visa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny:

This is a huge deal for us. A resident visa here is the approximate equivalent of a green card - you get most of the benefits of citizenship and it lasts indefinitely - which means no more temporary visas, you're pretty much one of them once it's approved. I had a few qualms about applying, and when I decided to apply it took ages to put everything together and satisfy all the documentation requirements (bastards sent my app back twice!), but it's finally in the works now.

It will be 6-12 months before I know the outcome - maybe more if they need additional health/character checks. But I'm so excited!!!!!

We've come such a long way.

Thanks, LT!! I know this isn't strictly LDR, since we've been living together for a couple years now, but I wanted to post this here cause you've all been absolutely amazing in supporting me during the tough times. Thought it warranted an update.

Once a LDR-er, always a LDR-er, eh? :laugh::p

I do wonder what happened to all the other old-timers. Rollercoaster, IG, SpiritOfNow, Ashbash, etc. I hope they're happy, no matter what they're doing. :)

Yes, I often wonder about those guys too and hope they're all enjoying life.

Maybe one day they'll come back with an update too! :)

I think it's about time I became an ex-LDRer myself - still working on that one!

Crossing my fingers for you too, LT.

Speaking of which, I've heard of people who have managed to get partner visas by displaying evidence of communications, pictures, joint assets, etc, although those visas are temporary and provided for the short term until you can get a year in. Still, though I'd put it out there, just in case! Especially as folks who enter on a temporary partner visa apparently have an almost guaranteed chance of getting a resident partner visa later on, barring changes in circumstances.

Congratulations Elswyth. I can't say I understand who is moving where but if you're happy, I'm happy. And you sure seem happy. Best wishes. Jim

Awww, thanks, FF! That's so sweet.:laugh:

Summary: I've been in the bf's country for the past 2-3 years now, but on temporary work/study visas. It's a gorgeous place. This time I'm applying for The Real Deal.

Woohoo!

Good deal

Uh. Cheers!

So happy for you, Elswyth!

I was thinking of the mountain of paperwork you scaled to get to this point.

Hope you're proud of yourself because that's no small feat!

Big hugs! :bunny:

Thanks Elswyth! We'll get there.

Thanks for the info too - although our problem isn't really visas at this point. In terms of evidence, the authorities would probably have a hard time believing we don't live together! :D What we desperately need is for the property market to start moving! I don't suppose you know anybody who wants to buy a house in the UK?

Thank you, C darling! Yes, I must say the paperwork was a horror and a half. I hope your application goes easier for you!

Ohhh... no, unfortunately! :( I know people from the UK who moved to NZ, but not the other way round. Sorry!

Why not rent it out if you can't sell? Perhaps rent with an option to buy.

Where is it? I've been telling a UK friend to find a cheap house for Buy to Let.
