amayana Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Hello dear fellow LDRers! This should be the second threat I'm starting on this lovely forum and this time it's about snail mail. How many of you guys here send hand-written letters to your LD partner in the good, old-fashioned way? If you do, how often do you write them and is it sth you do mutually? What do you write about? Are they long declarations of love, deep thoughts about life, short and sweet...? Or do you write affectionately about your partner and keep it to yourself? I want to hear all about it! Here is an interesting reference from an interesting book I'm reading which gave me the idea for this thread: "Kory Floyd, from Arizona State University, and his colleagues asked some volunteers to think about someone they loved and spend 20 minutes writing about why this person meant so much to them. (...) The simple procedure had a dramatic effect, with those who spent just a few minutes engaged in affectionate writing showing a marked increase in happiness, a reduction of stress, and even significant decrease in their cholesterol levels" (Wiseman, R., 59 Seconds: Think a Little, Change a Lot) 3
cerridwen Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) I have yet to do this but you've reminded me I should. He sent me a short love letter once, and it touched me. He's always able to evoke deep feelings and is especially good at writing. Aside from the content, there was something about seeing his handwriting; imagining him at a desk penning it; addressing and taking it to mail. It was the effort but also the physical link of holding the piece of paper that contained his thoughts; the paper he held himself. It was so different from email! So much more special. Because of that, I should really return the favor. Edited April 9, 2013 by cerridwen 3
Author amayana Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 Receiving a letter from a loved one is very special, isn't it? Last August I told him I would write him at least one letter every month and I have been doing it since. He is not a big writer and I don't really mind that but every time I do get a letter from him I feel touched and appreciate his effort. I have yet to do this but you've reminded me I should. Author amayana Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 I highly recommend it. It makes you feel happy and content. You don't have to be in an LDR to do it but I would think it's very helpful, especially on bad days or when you miss your SO a lot. You should give it a go and let me know how it goes! That's so lovely. I'm going to STEAL IT! Continued success in making it work LD. You're a beautiful couple.

FitChick Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I had an ex who used to do calligraphy as a hobby so it was always a treat to get a little note or card from him.
FitChick Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) Ronald Reagan used to write love letters to Nancy all the time. There is a book of them which I've been meaning to read. Edited April 9, 2013 by FitChick
