MsSmurf Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Dreadlocks can be very attractive and manageable if they're started properly. The few people I know who look great with them go to a natural hair stylist who can start them properly and teach them how to wash/maintain them. Once they get long enough they can be cut into cute styles for easier maintenance too. Keep in mind though there isn't really a way to undread your hair. So once you're done with them you pretty much have to cut them off and start from scratch. 1
sooniechan Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 They can look good but its hard to maintain (according to my brother) We are mixed and it worked out but his hair was for sure on the curly side though.
Emilia Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I've seen reasonable and clean looking dreadlocks but they are far and few between. The problem is that you will need to shave your head when you don't want them anymore.
ImperfectionisBeauty Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Eww no they are never a good idea. Especially in white people no offense I'm assuming you're white, I could be wrong, but if just looks trif on all people but especially white people. You all just don't have the type of hair for it.. No offense but I'm honest. Oh you're mixed... Well you might have the hair type for it but still they are gross.
Author zanzi Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 I don't mind cutting all my hair off as it's already very short most of the time. I thought dreads might prevent boredom and the likely hood that I would cut all my hair off again. ( I get bored and cut it all off every year.) Right now I have a pixie cut. Again. so boring.

dougmccoy Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 try to get fake (extension) dreads to see if it looks good on you. my friend has extension dreads and it looks good. he's a mixed asian.
PrinceAli94 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) I've got locks! I never call them dreads because...well that sounds dreadful. I'm black and have Afro like hair, started mine in September 2011. You need at least 6 inches of hair to start of with, most likey they'll be put into something called 2 strand twist so your hair can get used to being in the locks. They do recomend that you have coarse hair because It's easier to lock up over time, but straighter hair works out nicely too. A big thing you'll need though is...a job! Paying to get your hair retwisted every month or so is pivotal to keeping the individual locks looking well groomed and tight. If you don't the hair will begin to loosen and get fuzzy, that's when they really start looking bad. It'll take about a year for your hair to fully form into locks at which point getting retwist won't be as paramount. Personally, I love having mine, they're just beginning to touch my shoulder and I don't intend on letting them get any longer (I'm a guy) I've gotten a lot of complements on them and its really a unique hair style that'll make you stand out. They build a sense of patience. Edited April 10, 2013 by PrinceAli94 1
