Unprepared Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 My boyfriend who is in his late twenties is traveling in South East Asia at the moment. He always contacts me daily. Yesterday morning he messaged to say he was getting a bus. I have no idea where to , or how long the journey was expected to be. I've sent him three messages and an email in the last 37 hours and I have heard nothing from him. I am terrified something has happened. And feel utterly powerless to do anything.
justwhoiam Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 You should have asked him a detailed plan of his tour. And changes to it while on the road. Anyway, think positive. Maybe he couldn't recharge his mobile yet. If he's been traveling for a long time. Another worse option could be he lost it or he's been robbed. That can happen if he travels independently. Have you tried calling his mobile to see if it's working?
january2011 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Have his family or friends heard from him? Do you have any contact details for his final destination? Depending on where he is, the internet might be a little patchy and his phone might not work.

When I woke yday morning, the message saying he was boarding a bus had been sent a couple of hours previously. We met whole abroad, had relationship for half a year, and he's been travelling for 2 months. I have never communicated with his family and have still refrained from doing so because I don't want to raise any unneeded alarms just yet. I am terrified though, and can only pray that the internet situation is what's causing the problem.

According to your indications, it looks like you wrote him last time around 9:15 pm Asian time, Friday night. And he answered yesterday morning.
Author Unprepared Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 The last message I have received from him was on Saturday morning. I have sent messages but received no reply ever since. It is currently almost 4 am in my country of residence on the Monday morning. My laptop time, which is also my Loveshack time is set to Western European timezone. That explains any discrepancy on that front. I really don't understand why you seem to be attacking my post.
LittleTiger Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Unprepared, how was your last conversation with him? Anything out of the ordinary, any cross words or disagreements, or even awkwardness? Even if everything was great, perhaps he's just having a bit of breathing space. Time to think about where he wants to be and when. Maybe he's travelling where there is no phone signal, or he has run out of phone credit and isn't able to buy more on his journey. What I'm trying to say is that there are lots of possible explanations for him not contacting you so try not to panic. If you haven't heard from him in another 24 hours, then you could contact his family. Fingers crossed all is ok.

He has a phone, but does not have a phone number. The phone is no longer under contract and he uses it purely to access wifi. So, he texts me from apps he has downloaded onto the phone. But it is impossible to call him. Maybe there is just a problem accessing wifi or a computer with internet. I'm so worried.

If you are really worried, I don't see why you can't contact his family.

I suppose it's the same for his family. Just wait and see. I don't see other options other then googling for news in the area where he's traveling. And this is a 2-month pleasure trip?

Many parts of SE Asia have very poor public wifi and 3G access, and if he doesn't know you're expecting contact this soon then he won't go to the extra length of using a pay phone to call you just yet. I don't think 37 hours is a very long time if you already know he'll be travelling. Just leave it be for a bit?
