Shoulda known better -

I wrote and recorded a song that was the most cathartic blast I've had since joining official BSdom. I've played around with Garage Band for a few years and got Logic Pro last year just after d-Day. So when H said one day that he "should have known better," it just rankled and rumbled in my gut and became this song. When I finally got the music worked out, it felt SO GREAT to sing and record it. I have no ambition to be a great anything, but composing and performing this song under these circumstances made me understand blues music. It felt so good.

Anyway, there are few places I could play it or share it without making somebody or other uncomfortable, so I don't. I would love to upload it here but don't know if the LS platform can upload audio. I thought of asking the administrators but have never gotten answers to my messages or queries to LS admin (different name - but still...). Just thought that, since there's a platform for uploading images, maybe an audio file would work, too. Or maybe through SoundCloud? It's in mp3 format at 4.7mb right now and not sure how to get it any smaller. Zip archive just gets bigger. It could be approved ahead of time - no problem. Copyright waiver is fine, too (swear it's original everything).

Here are the words to "Shoulda Known Better" FYI --

When I was a young girl

And looking for love

I knew when I oughta stop looking

Now I am old

And your story's told

I see that I shoulda known better

Then I got older,

But still none too wise.

I never thought not to believe you.

You gave me a line

It worked out just fine

Cause I never knew any better.

Because I was blind

Did you feel more kind?

Forget it and walk on unfettered?

Well, I may be old

But you're still on hold

Don't think that I still don't know better.

When you were a young man

And looking for love

You hitched up before you stopped looking.

So mostly you stayed,

but sometimes you strayed

And now say you shoulda known better.

A little bit older

But still none too wise

You couldn't believe I believed you.

You gave me that line;

I bought it just fine

And you thought we'd all be much better.

You thought I was blind

An' you were so kind

To hide it and walk on unfettered.

S' now we are old

"n you want your soul

With: Oh, yeah, I shoulda known better.

There's no one to fool now

Just you and yourself

But that's all that I ever wanted.

For love doesn't lie

Or close either eye

I know that you always knew better.

You can't save your honor;

I see through and through

But willin' to take what's before me.

Just give me one line,

I'll be gone on a dime -

I promise this time I'll know better.

Was I just a fool?

Were you really that cruel

To think you're above the Red Letter?

You might fool my kin,

But then, look again -

Some of us know you knew better.

So lookin' for honor

Or lookin' for love,

The first step is look in the mirror.

You gave up the game

And you buried your shame

Now show me that you can do better.

No, no one to fool now

Just you and yourself

But that's all that I ever wanted.

For love doesn't lie

Or close either eye

I know that you always knew better.

You thought I was blind

An' you were so kind

To hide it and walk on unfettered.

S' now we are old

And you want your soul -

Just tell me you know you knew better.

You know that you always ...

Admit it - you always ...

S' prove it that now you know better.

(Fade out)

Does premium membership open doors - like being able to upload an audio file?

I've gotten responses from Admin on the Questions and Comments forum before but it's been a long while. As I recall, you just post your question like a new thread.

Good luck; I'd like to hear it.

I think Drifter777 is a supporting member; maybe send him a PM.

Well, I put a thread in Questions and Comments like BH suggested but still no answer. I'm working on an iMovie with it and maybe can post on YouTube. But movies take me forever. Will post the URL if I get it done. Takes a while because trying to find pictures that keep it incognito, etc. ...

I did what BH suggested - posted in Questions and Comments and got what I needed to know.

The Admin person said no audio/video uploading supported on LS. He said I could post it in Water Cooler if I want discussion to follow. If I don't, then put it in my profile and point members to it privately. Will think on this one. I don't really want applause (well, maybe) but then if it's too private, it won't do much good. I really and truly believe it was awesome therapy and highly recommend it.

The member post gave suggestions for web resources:

Youtube has an unlisted option where only people who know the link to your clip can view it.

Unlisted videos - YouTube Help

Photobucket also allows you to upload and link the following formats:

Videos – 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, avi, divx, flv, gif, mov, mp4, mpeg4, mpg4, mpeg, mpg, m4v, wmv

All video files are converted to .mp4 format when you upload them.

To be continued somewhere ...

Gotta tell you - belting out those "Better"s was awesome, especially when it was "you know you knew better." Just can't stress it enough: Singing your anger is just really, really good for you.
