It's getting to the point where my hair is getting quite long and going in my eyes and time to get a haircut. My girlfriend however, thinks I should grow it out even more. She also wants me to grow a beard. I've done that once for her before and it can get pretty impressive in less than a week. Personally I didn't like it too much though. The long hair and beard make me feel a bit scruffy, and playing sports is difficult, even with a headband. Personally I like to keep myself well groomed with medium length hair.

So what would you do? Adopt the Jesus look if she wants you to even though it feels a bit meh, or cut it how I want? This is an interesting question since a lot of women post that their man wants them to groom a certain way, shave pubic hair etc.

Side note: last time I came to her place with a Jesus beard she pretty much jumped me at the door and the sex was very very energetic.. hmm :o

Well, I know certain girls who advice their boyfriends to gain some weight and to dress shabbily, just to make them look ugly,so others girl won't be interested in them!

It's a relationship, you don't wanna lose yourself, I get it you gotta please her, but you also want to please yourself....So I guess, you can always compromise ....Do something in the middle to please both of you!

Stop right there man.

Are you doing it because YOU want to do it, or are you doing it because SHE wants you to do it?

At the moment it's long because I've been lazy with organising the hairdresser. Bet she is the one who wants me to keep it that way yes. I mean it wouldn't be horrible to grow it, just a bit annoying to get used to.

Personally, I think the jesus look can look pretty bad ass on some faces, so, if you think you might be that sort of person, go right ahead.

I'd love to someday be able to have a beard like this;

Do what you want to do.

It has to be your decision.

I decided I wanted to do something with my hair and several times during the process my wife told me I needed to change it back (so did everyone else). I said no. Her attraction to me never lessened. Matter of fact she loves my hair the way it is now.

I love beards and scruffy hair, as do a lot of girls I know.

But really, this is about what you want, not her.

It's your head and face, and if it really annoys you, then who is she to request you do it?

On the other hand, if the sex is better with the beard, then maybe meet her halfway and just go with that. No need for the headband hair too.

Compromise depending on what you'd like her to do in your shoes.

Let's put it this way: Do you enjoy any particular looks on her that would be inconvenient for her to maintain? Long hair, or a certain style of dress, or shaving, etc? Would you like her to make compromises on those things for you? Does she do so?

If the answer to all of the above is yes, then I think you should return the favour by keeping your hair in a manner that she finds attractive. That phase between boy-cut hair and shoulder length hair is a huge pain in the arse, from my recollections of growing my hair out in my teenage years , but if you find you enjoy a dynamic of compromise with regards to appearance in your relationship, then you will want to hold up your end of it.

On the other hand, if your answers are no, you feel she should dress and maintain her hair however she feels comfortable, then you should keep your hair however you feel comfortable.

She has very long hair already. I told her it might be interesting to cut it (not butch short but maybe shoulder length). Also maybe try going blonde? I always had a thing for blondes. She didnt really want to and I didn't push her.

I think I'll book the haircut. I don't think she'd get too upset anyway. Ugh the more I think about it the more the Jesus look sounds cool, but getting it there and maintaining it just seems like more hassle than its worth. My best friend hasn't had a haircut since 2007 and his hair is very scraggy and oily and  I wouldn't want to be like that.

You could always wash it?

Cut your hair, grow your beard.

That's my advice.

Yeah, maintenance of long hair is a pretty big hassle. You definitely do have to wash it (but I'd hope you wash your short hair anyway!), it takes longer to wash, and you have to condition and comb it as well. I think as long as your decision fits within the relationship dynamic that you want, you'll be fine. On the other hand, if there's anything in particular you want her to do for you, then it might be a fun trade. ;)

Omg you had to pull out the bearded Brosnan out:love::love::love:

I love beards and long hair. Absolutely. But my man.has a baby face and I wouldn't want him any other way.

If your girl gets super turned on by a beard and it takes less than a week to grow one out- why not???! You can always cut it off.

Besides I am a hairstylist. You can keep a beard AND long hair groomed. But only if YOU want it.

P.P.S. I am getting a Brazilian wax for my man. Do I want to? Not really. Will I to make him happy? Obviously.

P.P.P.S. I am going to add you to my contacts OP so you can see short hair doesn't have to be "butch" on a woman.

Yeah, I always found this bit funny - how some guys who like long hair on a woman don't know how much maintenance it takes... until they are faced with it. It's like some folks think women roll out of bed with perfect long silky locks that are never inconvenient and never get in the way because they are female, but it would be difficult for a male to keep hair of the same length? There isn't any biological difference between male and female hair, or any reason men can't have equally well-groomed long hair. It takes the same amount of work to keep well-groomed hair of a similar length in general, regardless of sex.

Omg E^^^ tell me about it. I am growing my hair out from very very short. It's so annoying. It's past shoulder length now but I still wear a headband and a pony tail when I am at home.

My ex had a long beard AND hair. Looked just like Jesus. He was constantly brushing both and had me manscaping him weekly.

It's better at pony tail length, isn't it? The most annoying part I found was when it was long enough to get in my eyes but not long enough to pull up in a ponytail.

Speaking of ponytails, I swear they're my saviour. How do people walk around all day with long hair that's never tied up? Mine constantly gets in my food if I try to eat without tying it up. Don't even talk about manual work or sports...

I've never had a bf with long hair, since they tended to be in professions that strongly encourage short. But that sounds like fun!

Try it...look for a way to maintain or manage it. :)

Umm...if you're impartial to it, and your gf loves it...I don't see what the problem is.

Unfortunately a lot of stuff came up so I kind of forgot about this thread for a week :(

Currently I have a 3 day growth. It's at the stage where it looks a bit ratty, but in a few days I should be rockin' if I decide to keep it. I would like to put pics up but I'm not too comfortable about sharing on a public forum. Via PM I could :) I'd say with my facial structure and a beard I probably look closest to Keanu Reeves http://memberfiles.freewebs.com/76/42/53914276/photos/Long-Hairstyles-For-Men/longhair2.png

So you wax for your boyfriend? I asked my girlfriend if she would do it for me. She wasn't into the idea. She thinks it will hurt too much and I'm not sure how to broach the subject. I didn't press her since it's not like the Amazon anyway down there :p

I don't think short hair is always "butch" on women. I thought Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3 looked hot! Although I do prefer how she looks in the first 2 films personally.

Well I ended up cutting it a few days ago! It's short-medium length now. I ended up doing it for practical purposes mainly. It's very difficult to play sport (even with a headband) and when I go to sleep it pokes and tickles my face. I'm thinking I'll try and style it somehow next time. I've always been a very simple sort of guy, I have had the same haircut since I was 14 basically.

In terms of asking her for a hairstyle.. I really find the hairstyles in the song Manic Monday by the Bangles

to be quite attractive. Particularly that of the singer Susanna Hoffs http://d.yimg.com/kq/groups/21303846/sn/714249044/name/Susanna+Hoffs%E2%80%99.jpg and also the girl who is singing at 1:26 of that song. Would that be too 80s / cringeworthy for the modern woman? I just really like that look.... and I think I revealed my music tastes :o
