I recently started dating after a break from it and I'm trying to be super careful about the whole process so I can weed out the losers and only spend time with men that are respectful. I've got a couple online profiles and I've been going with the 'less is more' approach. I don't feel like I should put my whole life story on my profile nor do I need pen-pals who email back and forth endlessly. My objective is to meet and get to know a person IRL. One of the questions (especially on match) is "do you have children" and "do you want children." I skipped over this and left it as "ask me later."

I recently had a good-looking guy with two young children (he has pics of them on his profile) email me and ask whether or not I 'want' children. Truth is, I have two teenagers and a 6-year-old that I have 1/2 time (I share custody) and I don't want to actually give birth to any more of them, but I'm okay if I meet a guy who has kids - in fact, I would prefer it. However, I feel like this is a lot of information to tell a stranger. Shouldn't these things be revealed as you are getting to know a person?

I would say you should definitely reveal that you can have kids. I really like profiles that reveal they have kids but that's it. Do not go on about your kids in your profile though. I skip over profiles where 80% of their profile is how much they love their kids and they are the whole world.
