applej4 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Looked up the definition of PATHETIC and saw pics of people who go thru their mates phone, randomly dialing numbers of people he has talked to. Then when they realize it's a relative, they make up some lame story (lie) to try to cover theri butts.
TaraMaiden Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Wow. That's some hip dictionary you found, there. When I looked up 'Pathetic' I got this: pa·thet·ic (p-thtk) also pa·thet·i·cal (--kl) adj. 1. Arousing or capable of arousing sympathetic sadness and compassion: "The old, rather shabby room struck her as extraordinarily pathetic" (John Galsworthy). 2. Arousing or capable of arousing scornful pity. [French pathétique, from Late Latin pathticus, from Greek pathtikos, sensitive, from pathtos, liable to suffer, from pathos, suffering; see kwent(h)- in Indo-European roots.] Yours may be more fun.... 6

TaraMaiden Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Who said anything about a dictionary? Anyway, thanks ofr sharing. When people say "I looked up the definition of *a word*..." it can more often than not be taken as read that the way they looked up the definition of a word was to consult a dictionary. Where then - if not within a dictionary - did you therefore find YOUR definition of 'pathetic'....? Fun, indeed! Do share where you got your definition! Very ordinary. But a good deal more accurate.....
