Does a man's pet choice affect how he is perceived by a woman? I grew up with cats because of a farming background in our family = endless supply of kittens.

Regardless of pet type, women have said they like a pet owner because it means they can take care of something. What do you think?

Here are a few of my thoughts:

Cats are females, dogs are males. Dogs are like your stupid best guy friend. Except for small yappy dogs, they're more like footballs. Cats are seductive, sneaky, and difficult, just like women.

One reason I prefer cats is because they are more independent. They poop and eat on their own, meaning I can take a short vacation and just leave food out for them.

I'm a cat owner. I prefer cats to dogs as well, but only slightly. I live in an apartment so owning a dog would be somewhat cruel (in my opinion). Women that like me tend to like cats as well.

I kinda turn a side eye to guys who prefer cats over dogs. I'm not sure why.

I'm a dog person, myself.

If a man has a cat, I always think he is more loving. Stroking and caressing a cat's soft, silky fur is a sensual experience. If a man has a dog or a cat, that is a good overall sign that he can focus on and care for another living being besides himself.

Dogs all the way, my pooch is like a child to me.

Cats are alright too though, don't get me wrong, I just find them to be far more impersonal. Lived with/liked plenty of them, but if I had a choice between the two it would be dogs.

While I've never had a dog of my own, I've lived with my grandmother for a couple of years who had two of them, and about a year ago my parents got a small dog.

Frankly I don't like dogs because they are just too demanding. They are also much louder than I can tolerate.

I'm most definitely a cat person.

Cats actually seem more like real people then a dog do. A cat can be loving and independent.

The best way to sum up a cat personality is, "I like being around you, but I don't need you."

In the past, as long as the guy didn't hate pets, it didn't matter to me. If a guy had a pet, I'd judge by dynamic between the pet and man.

First of all, nobody has a dog because they were too drunk to pull out.

You ever try to walk a dog that wasn't trained?

Not all cats. I have a bengal. They can be leashed quite easily but since I don't want an outdoor cat, have kept him indoors. He also shakes a paw, does other tricks and understands many voice commands.

yes but the dog was not mine it was difficult.

Since a number of my close male friends own cats, they and their wives don't see it odd that I'm a cat fancier. Most other women apparently do (see it odd). I mid-wived my exW's cat and took care of her semi-feral one after we split up and lost another wonderful companion cat last year to road kill. From now on it will be 'indoor' cats. Dogs really don't interest me. Had a wiener dog as a kid and that was it.

A dog that isn't trained to walk on a leash is difficult.

So why should walking an untrained cat be any easier?

Yea and your point :p

How is it going to look if i run with a cat ? people are going to be like wtf:confused:

I personally think it's silly and dumb, but many people of both genders - particularly those with conservative and/or "traditional" backgrounds - believe that it's strange for a single man to have a cat. His sexual orientation may come under scrutiny. It's more socially acceptable for a single guy to own a dog, and certain breeds of dog are more acceptable than others.

Guys who own a pet and give it good TLC are looked at more favorably than men who don't own pets, for reasons others here already mentioned. Guys who hate pets are generally perceived in a VERY unfavorable light by most people.

Would you go running with a dachshund or chihuahua?

Running with a cat is pretty much the same thing. Except that cats are faster :p

If they were legal in California, I would get a serval. For a sense of how big they are, looky here.

That's a very good answer. Personally, I am a cat person. I found them adorable, affectionate, independent, funny, clean & also don't require walks. With dogs, I guess I don't have that chemistry.

How can you really prefer one over the other anyway? Some cats are cool; some dogs are cool. Some are freaking annoying, but I wish them all good homes.

As long as a man likes my dog, I don't care if he prefers cats or dogs.

I prefer a man who has no pets.

Consider a savannah cat (hybrid serval and domestic cat) over a serval unless you're capable of handling a wild cat. Servals are aggressive, very strong and have the most amazing reflexes. Many serval owners, once the cat matures to adulthood, end up foisting them off to wild cat foundations since they become afraid of them. If pissed off, servals can become vicious and are unafraid to use claws and teeth on owners.

Even first generation savannahs

, still retain a lot of wild cat qualities so if you have difficulty reading body language, go all the way down to
, since by that generation, their temperament is very similar to housecats. Unfortunately, they also lose more of the serval appearance, in size and legginess.

Though both of them provide companionship & unditional love. Several factors will come to play: Living arrangements, time & to certain extent personality. Irrespective of the pet, it's important to understand the responsibilities that comes with owning a cat or dog.

I wanted to add: a man who owns anything other than a shelter pet would be a huge turn off (and possibly a deal breaker).

I used to have birds. Canaries mostly. If I do get an animal, it would probably be a bird.

I actually had a very strong fear of dogs growing up - very bad because dogs smell fear and they will f*ck with you . Am much better around them now, but still wouldn't get a dog for now.

Cats - I'm neutral on. They're OK,

The only types of dogs I like are dobermans , standard poodles, rottweilers, boxers, Bull Terrier dog off next Friday for those that do not know.

I was both agreeing and laughing at this society-indoctrinated BS.

I've also heard that men with cats are perceived as less masculine. Perhaps even gay.

And for those of us who don't have pets, I have NEVER had a problem getting dates from the ladies b/c of it. I have never had problems making friends, maintaining friends and being accepted in a very favorable social light. People who have problems with people w/o pets are the ones with the issues. How silly...I don't have pets and there's something wrong with me? :lmao:

I don't have pets b/c they smell. Shed. Take too much of my time to clean, take care of AND b/c they are animals. I don't equate my human children or relationships with them. I don't need pets to fill a void that I may have. I don't need a proxy companion. I want and vastly prefer human beings.

With all that said, I don't mind if my partner has pets. I, personally, prefer not to have one.

I have a regular black and white domestic cat and I am very happy with him.
