irc333 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I sometimes see dating profiles that state, "I have a cat, so if you're allergic, don't email me". It's kind of a shame one has to give up dating someone just because of a cat allergy. I'm allergic to cats myself, but figured there's pills for that. LOL Easy solution, right? Out of both dogs and cats, aren't cats the one common pet that MOST people are allergic to anyways? Even the pet owners themselves?
Mr_Flay Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I don't think that's so much of a dealbreaker. You don't have to sleep in the same bed with the cat, assuming you get to the "sleep in her house" stage.
crude Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Too bad about your allergy. Cats are the perfect way to understand most women. They only seem to come to their owner when they want something. No real affection, just using the owner for their own selfish needs.
Eternal Sunshine Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 My cat loves me more than any man ever did 6
soccerrprp Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 My cat loves me more than any man ever did ES, are you certain it's "love?" I dislike cats, so aloof, dismissive and self-serving.
TigerCub Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I think the point of what they're saying is - If you have severe allergies don't bother dating me if cats are going to be a problem for you. Also, if say you and this girl get serious and you're one day thinking of moving in together - that's not gonna be a problem for you with regards to the cat? are you going to be popping allergy meds every 12 hours? Or would you actually be willing to get allergy shots? Or would you guilt her into getting rid of the cat?- or at least try?
TigerCub Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Cat aren't so bad! My cat greets me at the door when I come back from work every day. She follows me from room to room in the house She comes to cuddle where ever I am. And I'm not feeding her 24/7 so it's not just "be nice for the food" kinda thing aaaawwww she's the bestest 5

TigerCub Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Are you sure that's a cat? LOL! Good to hear. I don't like dogs much either... Hehe I know! I always say "She thinks she's a dog" ;0
Eternal Sunshine Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 ES, are you certain it's "love?" I dislike cats, so aloof, dismissive and self-serving. Every once in a while you meet a very special cat. I am certain it's pure love. Here are some actions: -Cat waits for me at the door every single day when I get home. -When I give him food and he has not seen me all day, he will take a bite, then come to cuddle with me, then go and take another bite, cuddle and so on. -He is always following me around and trying to sit on my lap, or at least touch me in some way. - He sleeps on pile of my dirty clothes or my computer chair because I guess they smell like me (ewww I know).. -When I close my bedroom door because I want some space from him (he is soooooo clingy), he patiently lies next to my door, sometimes for hours and waits for me to come out. - He constantly turns around, when sitting on my lap to make eye contact, for some reason he likes to look me directly in the eyes. -When I have people over, he will let them pet him and play with him, but the moment I get up to leave the room, he immediately abandons them and follows me. I have never experienced such devotion in my life  1

Out of both dogs and cats, aren't cats the one common pet that MOST people are allergic to anyways? Even the pet owners themselves? Pills don't do **** for me. I'm so allergic to almost every animal that my eyes swell shut and I get hives on my arms, and I can't breathe through my nose after a few hours of being around a cat or a dog. I'm also allergic to birds and bunnies, but I've built up somewhat of an immunity to them. That being said, I like birds and bunnies more than I like cats or dogs, and I freaking love cats and dogs.
FitChick Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Some people will lie and say they are allergic to cats or dogs because they just don't like them. I've always had very loving, affectionate cats in my life. Same with every cat owner I know. I don't understand the aloofness perception. Perhaps if they live outside or in a barn.
dasein Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Most people who would put that in a profile are telling you their house is full of dander which would make anyone have allergic reactions.
Woggle Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Not me. I love my cat. The only thing that sets my allergies off is the couple weeks in spring when all the trees are blooming and then it is smooth sailing for the year. 2
carhill Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Very few people I know in real life are allergic to cats. I did find one of my exW's cats did seem to affect me adversely when she would sleep on top of me up by my face, which was common. Other than that, though, such reactions to cats by us or our social circle were quite rare. Other allergies, sure.

The only thing that sets my allergies off is the couple weeks in spring when all the trees are blooming and then it is smooth sailing for the year. Yeah me neither. My brother and my dad are both allergic to cats (and some dogs) but not me, my mother, or my sister. I sometimes have problems in the spring but nothing major and not all the time. Dust is a huge problem for me though, especially if I just shaved...
tbf Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Aren't MOST people allergic to cats? Didn't know that up to 15 - 20% equates to most being allergic to cat dander. It's also odd to perceive pets as disposable items, tossed aside for someone new in your life. Anyone who upfront tells potential partners that they don't view their pets as disposable, gets two thumbs and two big toe ups from me! 1
fortyninethousand322 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I would worry about someone who claimed to have a goldfish allergy though...
Malia25 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I went on a first date last week with a guy who knew I had a couple of cats and loved them dearly. So when the discussion became about our pets and he blatantly blurted out that he "hated cats...and in fact, I think I'm allergic to them" - he a) lost 7.5 pts with me and b) made it extremely obvious that he wasn't into me. Which is fine because my cats are awesome and could probably kick his shi tzu's fluffy little ass. ^__ ^ Don't mess with a gir's cats. Rawr. 1
ScreamingTrees Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I think cats get a bad rep.. Not to derail the thread, but my cat always greets me when I walk in, always sleeps with me, licks my face, the whole nine yards.. She's seriously like a dog trapped in an adorable cat's body.. A very loving, friendly cat. You treat an animal with love and kindness, and that's all it's going to know. As it should be.. 1
miss_jaclynrae Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 The point is... I have a cat, I want someone who will love my cat. Most people with allergies are bothered by them. I would hate to date someone allergic to animals.

ScreamingTrees Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 OMG. I am sure you would. Hey.. Wait a minute.. Are you implying I'd like to have sexual relations with your cat? YOU'RE SICK!
