What would you say the difference is between liking/crushing on someone and having an obsession for someone?

Does this sentence make sense? "She doesn't like him all that much but she has an obsession for the guy."

Well, I think for it to be an obsession it starts impacting on your life in a negative way.

I have a big crush on a coworker. At times, I certainly FEEL like my thinking about it verges on the obsessive. It has made me both happy and unhappy, and on balance I guess I wish the complicated mix of feelings would fade. So, yes, I think it is a bit of an obsession, although on the surface nothing overt has happened.

OTOH, I have found other guys attractive in a way that might constitute a "crush" but because there was no emotional cxn it was pretty harmless.

ETA: The only way the second sentence makes sense to me is if the obsession is based on negative feelings (dislike, envy) rather than positive ones.

So a crush is more innocent? An obsession affects someone emotionally?

I have a crush on both Randy Orton and John Cena. I will proclaim out loud how hot they are every time I see them on TV. An obsession would be if I started following them around the country and stalked them by peeping inside their windows.

LOL. What would you call it if the "obsession" doesn't involve stalking and peeping?

I think obsession is a very immature reaction. It reminds me of being fourteen and writing my first name and my ''targets" last name over and over on my Trapper Keeper. It is wasted thought and emotion.

Crush is positive. Light, flirty. I love having crushes,

Obsession has a negative component to it.

Usually, I know I've left the fun-crush-stage when thinking about the guy stops being fun and starts provoking anxiety.

This sounds quite right.
