i'mfaraway Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 He tries to fish for (you can tell from the way he asks) things like what you will be doing for the weekend, what holiday plans you have. When you return the question after telling him broadly what you will be doing, he comes across as evasive and give you vague/one word replies. Why do guys do that? Why bother to fish? And why be evasive (since a return question is quite normal in a normal conversation)?
DannyMason Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 He was probably planning to ask you out at those times and was disappointed that you had plans.

Author i'mfaraway Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 I really don't get the evasive part. Guys, are you really that secretive? I just felt like he has something to hide.
HoneyBadgerDontCare Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I really don't get the evasive part. Guys' date=' are you really that secretive? [/b']I just felt like he has something to hide. Well, that's one guy. He's not the official spokesman for the rest of us.
january2011 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 This sounds like smalltalk to me. Since we weren't there, we can't confirm that he was fishing/being evasive/secretive or that he had any other motive beyond making conversation.
Author i'mfaraway Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Well, that's one guy. He's not the official spokesman for the rest of us. But when someone is evasive, it shows he has something to hide? Sometimes I feel he's protective of his personal life, sometimes I feel he's a proud person and doesn't want to show that he doesn't have a good social life.

Since we weren't there, we can't confirm that he was fishing/being evasive/secretive or that he had any other motive beyond making conversation. It's happened a few times. I can feel he's fishing because it was deliberate. We were talking about other things and that came up out of the blue. But of course you can still say it's small talk. Though he did it looking away, like he was embarassed asking what I was doing on my weekend.
january2011 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 What is your aim here? Do you like him? Do you think he likes you? What's the background? Are you friends/acquaintances/work colleagues? Perhaps he's shy and doesn't know how to carry a conversation beyond the first question or two? There are a multitude of rationalisations for his behaviour. Why not ask him directly?

HoneyBadgerDontCare Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I can't tell if he likes me or if I like him. I just find it a little strange. What do you mean? Either you like him or you don't. How old are you?
Author i'mfaraway Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 What do you mean? Either you like him or you don't. How old are you? Early 30s. I don't know him enough to tell.
