DSW primarily sells the rejects that never sell in the stores. Why would you shop for rejects?!

For men's shoes, head to Nordstrom. Not The Rack, the full-service store.

Bah...nothing wrong with DSW for casual shoes. You just gotta look around a bit harder for what you like.

I get my casual sneakers from dsw and also got these:

Aston Grey Rockcastle Boot Boots Men's Shoes - DSW - Polyvore

Also needed new basketball shoes and Foot locker didn't have anything I liked in a size 12...headed over to dsw and found some decent Nike airs for 65 bucks.

It's not the price most of the women I know are paying attention to, it's the style. And just like with cars, when you go all expensive and flash, you get into "what is he trying to make up for" territory.

With the increase in style and quality comes the increase in price though, that's what I'm getting at.

Have you been to DSW? They sell stuff like this as well.

The women in my social circle love DSW, the nearest one is over 2 hours away, and they will take shopping trips specifically so they can go to DSW.

Yeah I've been a few times, always left unimpressed. I've always thought of it as kind of a TJ Maxx for shoes, maybe I was wrong. Maybe the inclusion of the word "warehouse" in the same acronym as "designer" is what's throwing me off. If they do sell a lot of stuff like those monkstraps (which I kind of like), I'll eat my words. I've just personally never seen that sort of stuff at a DSW.

The big point being is regardless of what store they came from, a judgmental girl is going to be able to tell the difference between these

She's probably looking for refinement, attention to detail, and a visible display of disposable income. I just don't see the squared toed ones with the visible stitching doing a guy many favors -- those leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. But I'm sure a girl can chime in here and tell me how wrong I am. Who knows? It's all subjective.

Anyone want to suggest shoes for a guy with short fat feet? As in 10.5 EE width is tight on me?

I'm sure some women living the sex and the city life style are going to care about the brand, but most women don't live like that. Most of my female friends are college educated working class types, and what they are looking for is a guy that has good style. Ask any woman, style doesn't have to be expensive. If anything it cheaper and easier to stand out from the crowed as a guy than it does as a woman.

It's very easy - but that's changing. I don't imagine it will be long before your average guy is spending just as much time and energy on preening as your average gal.

I am wondering, I hear some women use some kind of litmus test of their own to figure out or judge a man.

Some have said they like to look at the kind of shoes they wear.

Is this an overly fashion conscious woman or a gold digger red flag?

Neither.

If a woman stares at your shoes a lot, she probably has a foot fetish and is in the closet about it.

But I can tell you one thing from experience: there ain't no such thing as cheap shoes in size 16EEE, buddy.
