If you're addressing me, I don't care about style.

I was addressing 49k

I care more about how comfortable something is.

well a lot of stylish women will tell you they care more about style than comfort. The next time you see a woman in 4 to 6" stilettos ask her how comfortable they are to walk or stand in for long periods of time.

Please! Forgive me for my insolence, I shouldn't have come along on this date with only a clean t-shirt and well-fitting jeans! :(

You missed my point from earlier, you aren't likely going to get a date with awomen who dress like this all the time if your wearing jeans a t-shirt, and sneakers.

25. I'll be honest, I look 35-40.

Ditch the zuckerberg look. That might work in high school or maybe college but you will probably want to invest in some casual button down shirts (I like the plaided ones from The Gap) and some casual sneakers like chucks or even boat shoes like sperrys. And anything but white. I prefer long sleeve vs short sleeve because you can roll up the sleeves during the day and it just looks better than short sleeve button down shirts.

Not saying you can't wear tshirts and jeans but with those white sneakers? Hell no.

If you can look decently put together and presentable in an occasion-appropriate manner, with outfits that you like...that's all that matters. Don't try too hard. There's no need to dress to the 9's all the time. A wise shopper who buys good-quality clothes inexpensively can look every bit as good as the guy who's wearing an expensive blazer and $500 Bruno Magli shoes. And one can certainly look sloppy in high-end outfits.

I'd avoid Wal-Mart though. They're just crap, IME.

You must get a couple of female friends to take you out shopping ASAP

I gotta agree with Emilia, ltjg45...

I'm all for simplicity, but it's generally not a good look when a guy is wearing all one color.

Yeah I agree about the sneakers. I don't like those type of sneakers except maybe for jogging. Probably solid black would be better.

I just have a hard time finding clothes that I like or I think look good on me. Everything is almost always too small and I feel like I'm restricted in my movements or too big and I'm swimming in it.

For me? Not sure. I'd like to think of myself as a serious intellectual type. But then again, I like sports, hiking/mountain biking, changing my own oil, sci-fi stuff, that kind of thing. So I'm not sure what my personality is exactly.

this is part of it, but it's also how you carry yourself, where you hang out etc.

Does work and the grocery store count?

I have had a bit of a falling out with my friends. I guess I need some new ones, just don't know where to begin with that.

And we all know I don't exactly carry myself well...

I'd recommend not wearing sneakers at all and moving up to stuff like sketchers. they can be cheaper than decent sneakers, but there not as expensive as casual dress shoes.

I forgot to mention THE most important part about your wardrobe.

A good tailor. Every man needs one. Every.

I'm not talking athletic sneakers. Sneakers is a very broad range. I'm talking more like converse chuck Taylor all stars.

Have been insulted before about my footwear . Needless to say I haven't taken care of my shoes very well - and I do prefer trainers/sneakers because they are comfortable and I have sensitive feet and skin overall (autism).

But despite this, I actually like making the effort to dress well - it's uncomfortable but I get better at handling it the more I do it. I like wearing my shirts and a nice pair of jeans or pants. Have some decent t-shirts too, but I need some new shoes and some new shirts and tops too. I need a new wardrobe in general really .

If I do wear all one colour, it is usually all black. Generally I don't though. I like to think my fashion sense is getting better - I know what kind of style I want. I also want to get jackets like The Rock circa 97-99 (those electrifying $800 shirts were awesome :lmao:).

Yeah, and I probably wouldn't want a date with a woman who dresses like that *all* of the time. I don't know many who do, and they're not all ugly slobs either. I'm sorry for sort of taking control of the convo, just my opinion, as worthless as it may be to you or anyone here. :p You're right, though, this sort of person would consider fashion to be their way of life, in the same way a biker might consider car shows and dive bars his or her way of life..

I mean, if you think that these are average girls who may dress like that often and would see casual clothes as a turn off, then maybe I'll have to consciously try to improve my wardrobe. I don't really mind doing it, as annoying as it might be, if such a simple, minor tweak could improve my dating experiences as it may.

I don't really care about stilettos, I don't have a hard-on for them like some other guys, but then again, I'm a weirdo. :lmao: If a girl I'm with feels the absolute need to wear 6-inch stilettos, it's either to impress her friends, or maybe she's just looking to cheat on me with another guy. I would think it sort of looks ridiculous.

Interesting thread. I was out Friday night with some some female friends and this exact conversation came up. They asked to see my shoes, I showed them and got smiles and a thumbs up,

Would you recommend these to a 20 year old? I think I'd look like a little kid trying to play dress up, honestly. But that's my problem, really.

It's not so much how old you are but that those shoes are a bit fashion forward. You have to be comfortable wearing it and have to be able to pull it off.

I curious too, what type of shoes do women prefer ~ age group of 20.

Impossible to answer. Depends on the guy, the girl and the occasion.

Just don't wear athletic shoes or beat up shoes. Color coordinate and stay appropriate to the situation and you should be fine.

I could be comfortable wearing them and they look nice, as I've worn stuff that I felt could be seen as ridiculous but didn't care and genuinely felt comfortable.. I just don't want to wear something that is completely inappropriate, fashionable or not, comfortable or not, where people will actively mock and criticize you. :p It looks flashy, but I guess I'd have to go to a nice bar or club or something so I don't look totally overdressed. I don't see guys my age walking around with nice shoes like that, more likely than not just sneakers.

Quick tip. The worst thing you can do is wear something you're not comfortable in. If you have to second guess shoes like that, don't get them. Because you'll be too busy being self conscious to have any fun doing what you're doing.

Honestly, a good place to get fashion tips is Pinterest. Just search for casual menswear or something like that. Always start with casual wear and then move your way up to more dressy stuff and then finally formal wear.

I'm an early 30's software developer, and I wear shoes like this with jeans to work daily.

I mean, if you think that these are average girls who may dress like that often and would see casual clothes as a turn off, then maybe I'll have to consciously try to improve my wardrobe. The women I know who dress like this are in their mid 20's to mid 30's. They are hair stylists, pr professionals, marketing professionals, sales women. They are making salaries and living life styles you would expect from college educated women who now have money to do as the please.

It would be better if you describe what you think average is. After college once you enter the working world, whats considered casual changes a great deal. If your still wearing graphic t's and sneakers with faded jeans you are going to fall behind your peers when it comes imo.

Loafers and jeans (no socks of course) are considered a bit trendy. Not sure someone who is new to style should go there just yet.

O god no, thats the quido/Jersey shore look. I recommend socks, but they can't be white. they need to be color appropriate for what your wearing.

at 20 id recommend something like this at a minimum, ony less baggey and with a decent watch. this kid also needs to grow som hair and shave, he is to damn skinny and young to try and pull of a hard ass look.

Josh Hutcherson is a 20 year old actor, but i think these photos are from when he was even younger.

Well, I've always just gone with what I personally thought would look good on me. I wouldn't say that Hutcherson is dressed drastically different from how I would dress myself. Matter of fact, I favor long-sleeved shirts and dark jeans very much like the one he wears, I find they just look nicer than regular shirts.

I'm more inclined toward dressing in slim pants and fitting long-sleeved shirts because I have a slim figure with a broad chest. I've never gravitated toward graphic tees.

I don't really know what average is, I don't spend a lot of time around other people in such settings, honestly, so rather than claim to have a (skewered) idea of an average way of dressing, I'd rather say that I'm not sure what it would be.

I don't know how I would meet women who are in any of those professions, I doubt that I come into contact with many of them from day to day, honestly, even if I was to go out.
