Everyone keeps telling me to pick up a hobby.. I've been considering trying to learn how to play an instrument. I've always wanted to play the piano!

 

Has anyone taken this advice? Which hobbies did you pick up? Hobby ideas?

My most notable were endurance cycling and house rehabbing, which started as a 'hobby' helping out friends for free. Now it's a business. Cycling was a great way to get out anger and, at extreme levels, it produced endorphins, which helped reduce pain in a natural way. Also, it augmented fitness and a generally more pervasive feeling of well-being. Lastly, it was a good social outlet, sharing something with other singles and couples.

 

IIRC, I also did more volunteer work during those periods. I don't know if that's a 'hobby' or not but it did help the process, for myself.

Piano is good but I would do something that involves being with people.

Martial arts, running, weight-lifting, volunteering, playing pool, playing video games...

Like what's said before, you should pick two hobbies, like kick boxing, when you are angry lol or

 

something that involves you as a participant not a solo activity. Playing music means, you are enjoying it solo. Not much to do with others.

 

There should be a constant feedback for you to get rid of the thoughts in your head.

I'd always had a secret desire to act, so I joined a small Amateur Dramatics group. It's easily the best decision I made in terms of keeping me busy, and in terms of making friends. People really bond in the intense period of putting a show together!
