I am completely mortified. 5 weeks post BU, 3 weeks without contact, trying to be NC, but I did break and try calling last week.

My ex and I used a location-sharing app and I did not delete it post-BU (because I'm a wuss and still desperate for info - even though he's mostly logged out of it, here and there he logs in and it updates his location and I HAD to see it).

Today I checked for a location update on him before i got in the car. I won't use my cell while driving, so when I arrived at my destination 20 minutes later I saw that I had accidentally left the app open and ACCIDENTALLY sent two auto-messages, the one that says"I'm running late." and a panic message that says "I need help!" WHAT THE F-CK! I AM MORTIFIED. He's not logged in so he won't get those immediately, but when and if he logs in he will see those :(

I didn't know what to do so I just followed up with one more that says "What the? I didn't send those. Sorry."

Lesson learned. This wouldn't have happened if I went completely blacked-out NC. I'm not contacting him, but I'm still actively searching for info about him (Facebook, when he's logged in on mutual forums, the mutual apps, etc.)

There was a thread this week where somebody got a garbled nonsense text and I said I saw no way it could have been done by accident. I stand corrected. In my case the message was accidental, but wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been stalking the app and had it open.

Hahaha! That made me laugh! Too funny. I'm sure you'll be fine. That could be a scene from a Kristin Wiig movie!!

Whoopsie daisies! I wouldn't stress to much about it. Just let it go, and make sure you close the app. It's all good! :)

Too funny! The combination of the story with your username is quite amusing!

At least in this case those are auto messages using an app and not some accidental texts/calls so it's a lot easier to explain. However, I'm guessing those messages can only be sent if you have that specific person open in the app, in which case I give you my sympathies!

Oh, wow, I'm sorry that happened. But your post is so refreshing in its calm acceptance of your role in creating the situation. I appreciate your candor and self-knowledge.

On a side note, I have really appreciated your posts responding to others on the forum, and I think you have a lot of insight to offer about the grieving and healing processes.

I am rooting for you.

M.

P.S. You may not see the humor right now, but you will later, I promise. :)

Thanks everybody for helping me see the humor! :) I closed the app and took it (and others) off my home screen. I have to admit that I didn't unfriend him on the app or just delete it, but I'll get there eventually.

Ha ha, Cogee, that IS amusing! "I need help!" lol.

This username is one that I used back in college (before the internet but we did have an INTRA-net!) I never imagined the username would fit again so many years later.

Think of it this way: you have a creative butt (and we'll leave it at that)

Although you didn't intend to, thank you for giving me a laugh when I didn't think I could laugh at anything!! :)

And that's quite the safety-conscious app that contains an automatically programmed message that says "I need help!"
