After they've recently found out that i liked younger guys, i've been told not to bring them by the house so they can meet them. They only would accept guys around my own age; and i have no objection to that as i do like guys my own age and slightly older but i also prefer younger guys too.

Good question: "How old ARE you?"

By the way, what exactly is your PREFERENCE? Younger or around your age?

Oh, heck, this shouldn't be a problem! Do they know it's only a small age difference?

I guess i have no actual preference. I like younger, older and those around my age. And I'm 19

Three years can be a huge difference.

Edit: See? Huge difference between 19 (close to 20) and 16 (not even legal)

Yikes, I take this back!!!!!!!! Didn't realize you were that young!

Why would you want to date a 16 or 17 year old? Still in high school, immature, likely still living with parents, likely no job? Are you on your own? Living with your parents?

You must be out of HS, job, right? Why date someone that will not help you up and more independent?

Just my thoughts...

Shelly,

You have to admit, he's right. WHen you open yourself up for advice, you have to be ready for all sides.

I'm not judging. Hell if I was 16 I'd love to date a 19 year old.

I'm simply speaking in terms of numbers. 16 and 19 is a much bigger difference than 20 and 23, or 25 and 28.

Immaturity can be found in all ages. I've met plenty of immature 20-30 something year olds in college with a job and living on their own.

This is true and I totally agree. But surely you can see why your family would have hangups about the age disparity. It's not a matter of 3 years, as if you were dating a 22 year old this would not be an issue. You are close to entering your 20s and the guy in question is not even of legal age.

I don't disagree, but don't you want to find someone who is at least out of high school? Has some plan?

Thinking of you here. ;)

@Mrcastle...I understand what you're saying. But i just wish my parents could have rationalize their thoughts in a better way. Instead they criticised me: calling me immature, stupid and irresponsible,etc..

Shelly,

I don't know your parents, but I'm willing to bet that they were "thinking" what we have been sharing with you, but did a poor job expressing it.

As a parent, I would be very unhappy with your wanting to date younger "boys."

Good luck!

They might be afraid you will never leave the house if you keep acting like you're in high school.

With all due respect, If i was a parent, It wouldn't matter to me. As long as the young MAN had a job, respectful, responsible and has ambition; i don't see a problem unless my daughter was some kind of creeper or obsessed with younger guys that she had no desire to date one her own age ever.

how the heck am i acting like i'm in high school? But if i was dating a guy that was like 30, then that would mean i'm on the right path in life, right? No one has anything to say if a Man dates a woman younger than him but everyone wants to have an opinion when it comes to a woman doing the same thing. Why? WHY?

He is not a man. He is a boy.

Regardless of whether he's mature for his age, has had multiple sex partners, etc. He is a boy. His frame of mind is not that of someone 10-15 years his elder. He may be mature for his age; but he is no man.
