Is she playing hard to get or just not interested?

I've recently been getting close to a girl at school (she's 21, I'm 23) and I WAS convinced that she was as interested in me as I am in her. However, for the past week, I've been getting mixed signals. Our finals will be over after this week with Spring break coming up next week, so I decided to ask her on Thursday whether she had any plans. She immediately told me she doesn't and so I suggested we hang out. I remembered how empathetic she was with one of our teaching assistants who told us her dog was diagnosed with cancer, so I thought it was safe to assume that she loves animals as much as I do. So I recommended we go to the zoo (which my male friend thinks isn't a good idea for a first date...what are your opinions on this?) and she seemed to like the idea, mentioning that it's been a long time since her last visit which was mediocre due to very little animal activity, and said to just let her know when. At this point, I'm thinking "score" and that I got my foot in the door.

On Sunday, I checked the forecast to make sure weather won't be a problem and sent her a text message asking if Monday sounds good. Hours pass, but no reply. After almost exactly 48 hours later (my text was sent Sun 3:23PM, her's Tue 3:07PM, does this smell like strategy at all?), she replys with "Ahh hey so sorry for not responding I've been ridiculously busy. I can't say for sure Monday I'd have to let you know that day". That day?....really? I replied 5 hours later that night and said "Ok, we'll figure something out. See you at the 5 o clock session tomorrow?", planning to cut the bull**** and just ask her then in person what days she'll be free for sure. What do you know....she doesn't reply back. Fast forward to the next day, or today, and she's not at the review session (I had asked her a few weeks ago when it was announced and she said she's going). Bruised ego and all, I tried to forget about it the best I could and began the process of moving on. However, as I'm walking out, I realized I had gotten a text message that was sent by her a few minutes before the review session had started (most of the classrooms don't get cell service so it's common for me to get messages late). The text read: "Hey I think I'm gonna go to the 7:30 one :( im like in the library ping(which she meant to say pacing if it weren't for autocorrect) back and forth trying to decide lmao". I took this opportunity to flirt and tease her about the typo and asked why she'd be peeing back and forth in the library and if she needs some help, which she laughed about as terrible a joke as it is. I then ran into a buddy from another class and had forgotten to reply back until she sent me another text asking if my review session finished early (could it be that she was getting anxious herself without a reply from me?). Things turned into some more flirty banter, and of course, I got the last message in which she has yet to respond to.

I've become acquainted enough with her to know she can't be the "player" type, so that's pretty much out of the question. I'm obviously biased, but I also find it hard to believe that she's not interested but too nice to directly reject me, like one of my male friends think. If that were the case, wouldn't the high road for her have been to just not respond to the last text I had sent yesterday like I was expecting she wouldn't, and let me move on like I was about to? I thought that was the message being sent, by her not responding and not showing up to the review session. Our finals are this Friday, so she could've easily kept ignoring me, took the final, and probably not see me again. So could it be she's just being really difficult and playing hard to get? She did after all come across as "too available" or "too easy" when she said she had no plans for Spring break, so I'm also wondering if she's trying to reconstruct my image of her before it's too late. I'm all for "earning my stripes" because I agree that you have to work for the best things in life, but I still need to at least know if it's going anywhere or if I'm only wasting my time.

Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated!
