I prefer big dogs.

I can't go into a public place without someone telling me how gorgeous my dog is... I like it but it gets annoying after a while.

Girl's definitely approach you and it's an ice breaker but in all honesty it seems creepy to ask a stranger out just because they like your dog.

Malamute....?

They don't ask you out because they like your dog.

They ask you out because they admire your tastes in 'dog'.

Any guy with a dog of that calibre is an impressive individual.... ;)

If I saw a guy with a maremma (like my baby) I would certainly go and chat with him. My guy has to be an animal lover :)

GUys with dogs? Never really thought about it myself. I don't feel either way about it, save for the fact that I have allergies and if I'm going to be at their house I will ask first if they have any pets so I can pop some Claritin before stepping inside. As to the type of dog? No preference myself, except the name of the dog. If he's named the dog Muffin he's probably a closet case. Gays will name their dogs something artsy and original.

Omgggg can I date your dog??

I don't know that's his call, do you have any pictures you want me to show him of you?

Thank you :)

I can respect that, also I was going to make an Asian joke but I won't.

I don't care about the type of dog, more so about the responsibility the owner.

I personally love animals, so I would love it if my man had a dog. The type of personality and training the dog has had would definitely play a role.

Dogs take work, it would be unappealing to be with a man with a untrained dog who wasn't fixed, and for me would be a reflection of the man.

As for breed of dog? I hate the cliche, pits, german sheps, labs... I am way more inclined to go for the guy who adopted the funny mutt from the shelter.

I love animals and I have a dog who's my baby, but I've come to realize that I prefer a man with no animals. Other people's animals are cute for a few minutes and then I want them to go away. I've never spent time with anyone's dog that I didn't eventually start to find annoying. This is, of course, the owner's fault; most dogs aren't well behaved. And by most, I mean every one I've ever met. Seriously.

My BF has an older, smaller dog, and she's a sweet dog, but still annoying because he allows her on furniture, she begs for food, and she's really whiny sometimes. My dog, on the other hand, does none of this. My life would be complete if only my dog existed. I don't need anyone else's animals in my life, so a man with a dog is actually a turn-off. :o

I don't really want to get into the arguably trivial nature of this topic, but just thought it would be interesting.

Girls, do you like a guy who owns a dog(s)? What breeds would be a turn on/off?

Personally; my pup Australian Cattle Dog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 10 months, male.

I like dogs. I hardly date but have never dated anyone who has had a dog...at the rate I'm going it would most likely be the man wondering if he should date me because of my dog lol.

I personally prefer the gundogs :o spaniels, retrievers etc. I want the nice family pet type. Its not that certain breeds would put me off a man but someone with what I consider to be 'chav' dogs (lol sorry) might be a bit off putting. Staffordshire bull terrier, bull terrier...and all those dogs that people get to look "hard" and tough. No thanks :(...although the dogs themselves appear to be lovely.

I wouldn't want something little and yappy and snappy either...oh my. I want a dog not a toy.

Alsatians are fabulous-the perfect mix of friendly, fun, active and protective.

A lady I used to work for had a labradoodle-a total screwball but so much fun!

The people I lived with last had a doberman/weimaraner. It was cute to look at but a f**ked up mess of a dog (in terms of behaviour-badly trained, badly behaved) but very loving and sweet and active. I dogsat for them when they went on holiday and when they came back, I went out one day and about ten minutes after I left, the dog ran away from home never to return :(

Me myself...I would love to have a Cocker Spaniel, Goldie or Old English Sheepdog :) grooming would be a pain but the Dulux dog is my first preference!

I love a guy with a dog. I am a HUGE animal lover and really don't understand people that don't care for animals. They bring so much love and joy to your life.

I have a 11 year old rat terrier. He is my baby and sleeps in bed with me everynight. He has since he was 4 months old. So if I meet or date a guy that really isn't interested in animals or thinks it is wrong for my dog to sleep in the same bed, that is a huge deal breaker for me.

So I am only interested in dog lovers/owners. As to what breed, I don't really care. I just know that most dog lovers are good people :)

I think that would be a deal breaker for guys. Sleeping eiyh their gf and a dog in the same bed how vile.

Dog hair, dirty paws and it's bare bum....dogs don't bathe everyday so I hope you changed out sheets daily.

It's a Rat Terrier, not a Saint Bernard :o

Either way, guessing you aren't much of a dog person.

Dogs, left to their own devices are, in normal circumstances, a lot cleaner than some people.

I'd rather share my home with 10 dogs than one cat, any day.

Black lab hound mix.

she is VERY friendly.

And jealous.

Every time I have a woman on the couch she tries to squeeze in between us. LOL!

And, this is a dog who knows she isn't allowed on the couch. (at least when i'm home.)

She lays on it when i'm gone then jumps off when I come home. LOL!

I just keep a whisk broom & febreeze handy.

You can tell a lot about a guy by the dog he has....

But a turn-off for me would be to see a young guy with a pitbull.

I worked at a rescue centre, and sadly there were a number of pit bulls brought in and left there because the owners had acquired them as status symbols, not realising the amount of work required to turn a heavy bag of bone, teeth and muscle into an acceptable and domesticated pet.

Even sadder, was the amount of young men - back-to-front baseball caps, sculptured beards, jeans around the crotches, loping gait - who would come to the rescue centre wanting to take one of these dogs.

Naturally, we had to treat all clients as potentially suitable owners, but it rapidly became clear as to why they wanted to own a dog of that type - and so it became much easier to put them off, with the regulations and conditions laid down by the Centre, if they were approved for adoption.

With pit bulls we insisted on at least 10 home visits, a training programme for new owners, microchipping, and the name of at least 2 referees (not family members or employers).

The expense for the above conditions was Centre/owner, 30%/70%.

Far too many pit bulls went unadopted......

A man who buys a dog as a status symbol isn't worth the ground he's walking on.

Out of curiosity, what does my Corgi say about me?

For me, it's not a question of the breed of the dog but how it's being taken care of. Extremely repulsive and upsetting to see unhealthy, dirty, poorly socialized dogs, no matter what the breed.

Ditto.

I LOVE any dogs who are well-trained and well taken care of. Breed is irrelevant.

The unfortunate issue for me, though, is that I'm allergic to some dogs. :( So while I'd love the dog, not sure it could work out in the long term in that case, since we wouldn't be able to move in together with the dog.

I know some people are like that. They can't stand dog/cat hair. My best friend and her husband almost called off their engagement because she had a dog and two cats and refused to get rid of them. Her hubby did not care for animals at all. Of course they got married and she got to keep them and now he loves them. :)

I know it would be a deal breaker for some guys that my dog sleeps in bed with me. But then he really isn't the guy for me.

My ex husband and I slept in bed together with two small dogs. It was never an issue. The guy I am dating now doesn't have an issue either. It isn't vile and dirty. I clean my sheets often.

I love dogs

Any breed, all breeds.

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels myself, and I do tend to prefer smaller breeds. Funnily enough, it's the smallest one of my two that is the boss. I also have a cat (because my brother decided he wanted one) and I think my dogs are cleaner, and smell less than she does.

I love spaniels! Here is a pic of mine :)

QBF5.jpg (960 x 720 pixels)

I picked him out at the shelter. He was on the bottom cage and was the only dog not barking. When they let him out, he rolled on his back and started licking my face :) We've been brothers ever since. He's a bit ornery, but a good dog.

I do like big dogs too. Always wanted a chocolate lab :)

Thanks HS! He's a funny little guy. He is obsessed with chasing squirrels. He never gets any though

Fun fact: he has killer eyelashes. The girls are jealous ;)

I'm glad he came around... but it would be an instant deal-breaker if a guy even hinted that I should get rid of my dogs or cat. I'd be more likely to work through infidelity (highly unlikely) than being told "It's me or the dog."

best of craigslist: Girlfriend says, my lab must go

Yep, I agree. If someone told me to get rid of my animals, I would say sorry, but goodbye. I will never bend when it comes to my pets. Never.

Ugh I hate when SO's are jealous of your animal. So stupid.

I am terribly allergic to cats however and at my man's house he has a "cat orgy"....

Claritin or hotel room.
