I started hanging with this really fun guy but way too young for me to date. He's 27, getting his athletic build back, he's 6ft tall, balding so shaves his head. No kids and no former serious relationship and I'm chalking it up to his parents naming him Ernie. I don't see any major other flaws. So ladies be honest, would you date a guy named Ernie?

Look I'm just trying to understand why he doesn't get dates. Seems the girls are turned off by his name and instantly relate it to Sesame Street. And yeah girls in their mid. 20's are judgmental.

They were that judgmental back in "my day"!

Why doesn't he just call himself something exotic like "Ernesto"?

So you are in your mid 20s but 27 is "too young for you to date"?

But, unlike a lot of the other people here will do, I'll cut you some slack. There are a lot of girl's names that would be a turn-off for me too.

I have a friend who is named Ted and absolutely hates it, so he tells girls his name is Theo or to call him by his nickname, Teddy Two Fingers.

I had suggested that to him already. Does seem like it would help. I'll suggest it again but want to approach it with great sensitivity.

How about you don't? He obviously goes by it so I doubt he sees a problem with it. How do you know it wasn't his grandfather's name or something?

You are obviously too good for him, so just move on.

Like the Teddy Two Fingers.

And no I'm 41. Ernie's just a friend in same running group. He often asks why he doesn't get to the point where a girl goes out with him. I truly believe giving him a little wardrobe makeover to go with his more distinguished Ernesto name should help.

Like what? I can't wrap my mind around this.

To set the record straight, Ernie is my friend for years and he came to me for advice on why girls don't give him the time of day. I sat at a friends house talking about this when her 21-year-old daughter said "it's probably because his name is Ernie". So my question was to girls in their 20's Would you turn down a date just because his name is Ernie?

Again for the record, I'm fine with Ernie. I love his guts.

Ew Ernie is a horrible name! I would have to give him a nickname. I would still date him though, but I would not want that name on my wedding invitations!

Ive known guys with "weird" names who did just find with women. Whats wrong with Ernest or Ernie? Both are fine. Bet his bros call him Big-E =P

Ernie is a nick name. And its not a horrible name. Grow up.

Maybe you could think of him as a business:

"Ernico LLC."

Or if he's a medical business:

"Ernicare"

I.T:

"Ernienet Solutions"

Your friends daughter is stupid. If a girl is a attracted to a guy, she wont care what his name is. Lets be real here.

So what? Now we are down to rejecting guys based on their names? Can't anyone else see the superficiality of all of this?
