Hi everyone! I'm new on here, but have browsed around before and finally have a question worth posting, so I figured who better to ask than all of you?

Alright, so basically... I was having a conversation with my sister about saying "I love you" since we're both in new relationships. She had asked me what I would do if my s/o said he loved me tomorrow, and I replied by saying "it's only been a month, I don't love him!" After that, she asked me how long I waited to say it to my ex of 3 years (my first serious relationship) and I told her about 6 months. After I said this, she looked shocked, and it got me to thinking...

1. Is there a difference between saying the words "I love you" and "I'm in love with you?" (In terms of to a s/o, not the whole loving your family and friends, not being in love with them kind of thing.)

2. When we say "I love you" is it taken as "I'm in love with you?"

3. What feelings about the person bring you to say it, like how do you know you're ready to say it?

4. And lastly, how long, or short have you guys waited in the past or in your current relationships to say that you love your s/o?

I always felt that there is no general "right time" to say it, and that you should go by when you feel it... but by "feel it" I always meant when you KNOW you're IN love with the person, when you'd do anything for them, when you know you don't wanna be without them, and when you could see a future with them. Now, I'm thinking maybe I was wrong.

Just curious on everyone's opinions, because I have only ever had one serious relationship in the past, and judging by my thought process, I'm not even close to being ready to say it to my new boyfriend and now I'm fearing that I might be hearing those words from him soon and I am TOTALLY lost on what the phrase even means.

That's what it means for me.
