Anela Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Why am I largely successful in real life but not at all in OLD? Can you explain the disparity? You aren't ugly. I came back to this thread, because I realized that people would probably think that I was wanting the top 20% ( ) to message me on those sites, instead of regular guys. One guy I was really interested in, was 5'7. He wasn't "hot", but I found him attractive in the way that someone can become hot in your eyes, the longer you know them. He had no interest in me. As I've said before, I probably should have just sent out my own, "hey sexy" messages, rather than trying to make conversation. Although, I wonder how many guys thought I was desperate, because I decided to message them. 2
MrCastle Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I never thought my being 5'9 hurt me...though Im sure it could when it comes to girls who want 6 ft guys...but those girls who say that in their profile arent too common in my searches. I know that my being chocolate plays a factor though. I would say, not lying or exaggerating, at least 6 out of every 10 profiles specifically ask for tall men, regardless of the height of the woman. 6 out of 10, easily. Easily more than half.

So clearly the height thing isn't as big of a deal as you think. 1

Maybe its the kind of women you tend to click on? More like 1 or 2 out of 10 women mention height in my experience.
123321 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I'm far from an OLD expert but the only thing that remotely worked for me was to refuse to engage in the endless ego stroking email thing and just went straight to IRL as soon as possible, or dropped out and moved on. IN my meager experience if they don't want to meet in real soon, they are probably there looking for Mr Perfect and AWing in the meantime.

I want someone who has a lot of things in common with me and that can only be found out with conversation. Another thing, I have had women come up and try to talk to me, I have never thought they were desperate. I like a woman who knows what she wants and goes for it. He was a fool for ignoring your interest. . 3

It's possible. Our taste in women may be different so what I enter in my criteria may differ from yours. I have no qualms about saying 6 out of 10. May even be 7, but I'll round down and use the low number.
PhillyDude Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Doubt it's that. I'm a creative writer, as well as a photographer. Taking pictures and writing are two of my passions and strengths. I think they see think see things like my height and other stats that don't appeal to them and move on. Well maybe that means you are not that good looking then. What good looking man who writes well struggles on a online dating site?

I don't think you need a walking phallus. Plus some guys are really turned on by intellectuals. They say the way to a Gemini's heart is through their brain. 1

I've always tended to see who comes to me, but I was trying to be brave, and see what happened. I don't know how to "sell myself", so I might have just looked like an idiot - I think they might have liked me if they'd been around me in person. Unless I'm just not pretty enough. 1
HoneyBadgerDontCare Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Well maybe that means you are not that good looking then. What good looking man who writes well struggles on a online dating site? LOL you're such a big talker, but someone disagrees with you and you report them to the mods.

I think I read an article where guys are notorious for doing that. Or maybe your profile is too much? If you try to come off as a player, it could be a turn off for a lot of women. .

MrCastle Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Well maybe that means you are not that good looking then. What good looking man who writes well struggles on a online dating site? Ask some of the women here. I've put my pictures up before. And the bulk of women I date either model semi professionally or at the very least aspire to model. I've been blasted on here a few times for having high physical standards. I am by no means a bad looking guy and in my real life am the most successful of all my friends. When it comes to OLD I am the least successful. Luckily I don't take it seriously because I do pretty good for myself in real life.

I think I'm neutral. My looks don't make my dating life easier, nor do they hinder me. Some women however think I'm "hot", I'll take it.

The guy who is average looking who wants/feels that he should be dating a model. LOL, no offense 1

If you try to come off as a player, it could be a turn off for a lot of women. .Dude...I tell myself Im average all the time, yet a decent amount of women here, and women that I know in real life, have called me very cute with a hot body. Im still modest about it and feel Im an average dude with some fitness, but the lack of attention I receive in OLD makes me wonder. Hell, with the way some girls Ive been with have talked about me, Id expect to get more interest in real life. But I chalk part of that up to not being able to pick up female signals, and also not approaching enough girls. All in all, its possible for a guy to be good looking and fail with OLD for some reason or another. Generally it seems to be down to female pickiness and them being flooded with messages because guys message every single girl they see. 1

Not overly concerned with what women online have to say about my dating trends.

HoneyBadgerDontCare Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Sure. Im entitled to a guy who has a 6 figure salary...all is fair in love and war I have a 6 figure salary. Where you at?

And/or guys who seem to need to write a thesis on everything. And those who are in relationships. We have an astrology thread over here: http://www.loveshack.org/forums/off-topic/water-cooler/324071-astrology-thread - I'm an Aries, but with the other planets thrown in, I have Moon/Venus in Gemini - they're supposed to be ideal for me, based on that. 1

All in all, its possible for a guy to be good looking and fail with OLD for some reason or another. Generally it seems to be down to female pickiness and them being flooded with messages because guys message every single girl they see. That is the inherent problem with posting your pic on a forum. If you are good looking they'll tell you are attractive and if you aren't good looking they'll tell you are attractive. I have seen similar things on POF forums. Nobody is out there to hurt other another person's feelings, especially if they know you and like you and if you are long time/well respected member of a forum [as you seem to be]. It is no skin of a girl's back to tell you that you are attractive even if she would never date you in real life. Not saying you aren't good looking or anything, just make sure you realize that words are cheap and actions speak louder than words. .

Generally it seems to be down to female pickiness and them being flooded with messages because guys message every single girl they see. Exactly. Since I go for model types in real life, doesn't it stand to reason I go for the same ones online? Doesn't it also stand to chance those chicks get destroyed with messages? Doesn't it also stand to chance that those chicks are extremely picky and select men taller than me? Or that make more money? Or are male models themselves? I don't understand why people can't grasp that.
