Those that call themselves realists are actually pessimists. I know as i used to be a realist myself. I am now an optimist.

Yes! Which is why I picked the avatar that I did...

Nice topic. Stick to it.

On topic:

because IMO drive, ambition, passion and wanting to better oneself are attractive qualities. In BOTH partners.

Thats all.

I think what upsets some people is the simple reality that not everyone is going to have a "career". There comes a time when you have to do something to survive. You can have passion and drive and talent for and in things that aren't particularly conducive to making money.

Most of us dream of turning our spare time banjo playing hobby into a big time career in the music industry, but what are the odds of that? You can't be slumming around eating ramen noodles and catfood your whole life just waiting for that big break.

So yeah, a lot of people have "jobs" not "careers". To pay for things like food and shelter and entertainment people take a job they might not be super happy about and they get their passion in ways that don't translate into accolades and monetary compensation. Nothing wrong with that. And of course nothing wrong with having a career either.

I do agree with this- passion, drive and ambition don't all have to apply to the same thing.

Some people are lucky enough to have an OK job that pays well that also allows them to pursue other hobbies.

I don't "love" my career either, but it pays well and is flexible enough to allow me to be a parent and pursue a couple of other passions. So all bases are covered= happier person.

If you've made the right choice for you and found someone else that wants to be with you and is happy with your choices, then happy days.

I personally wouldn't be happy with someone who was happy to cruise along, but thats just me.

I tend to find a lot of career types boring. Financially stable a lot of the time. But boring.

Realism and pessimism are just two shades of the same color.

^Not really. Realism is recognizing the most likely outcome of a situation. Its also recognizing that good and bad can happen, even if you really only want the good part. Dunno why people label something as pessimistic if you dare acknowledge that a possible outcome is not the best outcome.

Depends on the career, don't you think?

Being Iron Man sounds like an exciting career.

Yes, I suppose. I don't mean people who have careers, period. I mean people who, that's kind of all they have going on or care about, in dating/friendship terms.

I tend to find that people like that are just boring, often miserable people, regardless of their career. A lot of them seem to do it just because they think that's what they're supposed to do, and it causes serious problems in their lives.

Agreed.

Career- parents can be the same- nothing else to talk about except their kids, which can also be very boring.
