Watching the new Pope get introduced made me think that this ceremony has been done for hundreds of years.

What amazes me is that as human beings, we have not evolved much when it comes to the emotion of love over time. Since the beginning of time, people have :

1. Married the wrong people (not in love)

2. Cheated on their spouses

3. Put up with bad marriages for the children thus passing down dysfunction

4. Have mid-life crisis and throw it all away. The road to hell is scattered wit these skeletons

5 People succumbing to temptation.

6. Being emotionally and physically abusive to one another.

Think about it, isn't it amazing on this great forum of ours how many stories just sound the same over and over again. It's just the people, ages, locations are different.

Conclusion: A lot of humans are terrible at what should be the most beautiful thing of all love.

and that's really why the Pope and Catholic church are against gay marriage - they want to spare them from the suffering....:) ....Kidding !

Aka, people (including the Pope) are human- we have in the end and except for a few individuals, a poor conception of what we want, need and are willing to give or compromise over. It is unfortunate there are such horrific personal and societal consequences- personally I think it would be much preferable were society to make marriage much more difficult and divorce trivially easy (administratively, can't imagine it ever being emotionally easy for at least one of the partners)
