Marek Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 What do you do? I'm talking about when having a face-to-face conversation with someone, and you think he or she slipped in a derogatory remark about you, but you're not really sure if what you thought you heard is actually what was said. Do you say "Excuse me, but did you just call me xxxx?" Sometimes this happens to me when I'm talking to a person in a loud environment; I think they insulted me when talking to me, but I'm not certain. So, do I ask that person to repeat what he or she said?
amaysngrace Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I would ask them to repeat that rather than jump to conclusions. 1
Feelin Frisky Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 If I were unsure I'd ask. Only then will I explode.
DannyMason Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Just let it go. If they really want to insult you, they'll be all to happy about clarifying the matter without prompting. If not, then your request for clarification will seem like passive aggression to an innocent party. You know the first thing they'll do after you ask for clarification is want to know what you thought they said. Then they'll likely feel criticized or attacked by the implication that you thought they were insulting you. 1
Woggle Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I smile in their face and give a who cares kind of shrug. Let them be miserable.
