ls32ssibm Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Being in a relationship kills my ambition. It makes me way too content with my current situation. I know it isn't JUST me because I have a friend who is just like this. Had anybody else experienced this?
carhill Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Generally, most of my social circle are inspired to succeed when taking on the responsibility of a wife and children. They become more assertive, more ambitious, more driven. Perhaps it's different with folks who live together long-term, which is something I haven't experienced. IME, personally, I had more time to be ambitious when single and alone but felt more 'inspired' when married, both to succeed and to try new and different things in life. Those feelings did offer aspects of 'contentedness' but also elements of excitement. If anything, having done all that 'stuff', I'm more content now as a divorced man than I ever was prior. It's feels like a comfortable chair. 'Ambition' is now 'fun'. YMMV.

Probably once you find yourself content with your situation while single, you'll find yourself ready to be OK with being content with a partner. 1

Sure, I would go out and do other things but if she contacts me, my focus goes back on her. I'm not the kind of person to ever ignore anyone I care about. Talk about a disturbing weakness of mine.
