Being able to carry a sound argument in a debate requires intellect and reason.

Getting into said debate requires backbone.

As long as you don't let anger cloud your judgment, you can get your point across without trying to displaying too much dominance, which in turn gathers respect.

There are things worth debating about, and things that are not. Carrying on a debate based on two radical opposites angrily throwing verbal spit-fire at each other isn't likely to go anywhere.

However, one who is able to understand another's reasoning, without them being fully aware of it, can use this to their advantage.

Sometimes things escalate into all out war. In which case, neither party wins. One may have successfully warn the competing party out to the point of submission, thereby drowning out their opinion, but they have still not convinced the other of their point of view.

Having a degree of understanding of all sides of a problem gives you leverage to win over the mind of another, as you can coax their opinion over using sound reasoning.

It also helps if you can take note of hypocritical statements and utilize metaphorical observations.

In irrelevant matters, a closed mouth gathers no foot.

You are always so on the money. You never ever say anything I can disagree with. Plus there's the whole weak at the knees thing.

Can we just get married?

Very good post, at this stage however - in my experience at least - this is the stage when they start hating you

It can happen

Understanding another better then they understand themselves can have that effect. Especially in matters of long-ingrained ideals. Individuals are more likely to assume the way they've done things or viewed things for x amount of years is absolutely correct and shouldn't be revised at any point for any reason, simply because It's the way they've gone about things for so long.

Being open to new ideas and creating friends instead of enemies seems to be beneficial for everyone involved. People sometimes forget we're all in this together, and that everyone has their own version of the right answer.

Life is a matter of perception, right and wrong are just words, what you do with the knowledge you've gathered is what counts.

Aw, you're sweet.

You're pretty funny, I'll give you that. I could use a nice chat over some coffee, sounds rather refreshing. I'm also rather interested in your field of study.

Indeed so, my interests are a bit on the diverse side.

That is a question in which I have no answer. And yes, I would very much enjoy hearing what you have to tell about archaeology.

Sounds like a plan, looking forward to it. :)

How I know this is a good thread is because I don't have anything to add for once  (that and I'm on my phone)

I should also say my heart currently belongs to a girl who is way way off limits. But this thread isn't about her, either.

Wow. DEscribe about this girl. I'm curious

I find that there's a way to cut the bullsh*t with a girl without "calling them out". I very rarely take these kinds of things too seriously nowadays and treat it for what it is. I am very comfortable on my own so ultimately, while I respect other people, I also respect myself enough to be emotionally resilient and be able to play the game.

I show people respect even in the face of their bullsh*t by not kicking off, but I expose them for their own good.

The question is what'll happen now...I don't think people change their stripes so quickly. She may have been intrigued by the challenge, but that doesn't mean you can then settle into a comfortable space in future conversations - what if the hint of challenge is the only thing that gets her to respond in a timely way? Sounds exhausting, even in a friendship.

Also, blocks of text to have a deep convo sound exhausting to me too. ;) Maybe I just need a nap.

Sorry mrcastle, be itching about slow text responses is about the most unattrative thing out there. Comes off needy, demanding and just overly invested. She's a university student, she's got stuff going on? Don't you? Baiting here into a petty text war about it, (or anything) is not going to make her respect you, just find you creepy and irritating. A pest.

I think you should stop sitting on the fence and just say how you feel

Please read the OP more carefully next time. The argument was not about her texting habits. I encourage you to read again and not jump to conclusions. I understand it is a lengthy post, but would save you the embarrassment of being wrong as to what was talked about, as someone else was earlier in the thread in the same way, who I also had to correct.

Anyway, this brings me to my main point. Women are attracted to men they respect. Men that are bold. This has nothing to do with your physical nature. This is all personality. Men that are successful with women don't fear expressing displeasure or saying things they won't agree with because they don't put women on a pedestal. They see them as equals. Women don't want you to bow before them. They want a man. Sometimes a man says no. Sometimes he is going to disagree with you. Respectfully of course, but disagreements will be had. You must always stand your ground. Women will respect you for it.

I know this seems like a no brainer to some, but it's still an important topic. Don't be a push over. I could have easily let what she said slip under the rug and tried to win her over with some flirting, but she said something that struck a nerve and I had to address it. She said something that I couldn't let slide and I believe it was said intentionally to test my stones. Some men would have laughed it off or tried to sweet talk to avoid confrontation. I took her on. I captured her interest in doing so.

The problem with this is ... there's some poor guy who struggles with women reading this right now thinking to himself,

"Man. He's right. The reason I do so poorly with women is because I'm too much of a wussy. I get rejected all the time after all. God, what I really need to do is be more macho, and show her that I'm a man. Push her around a little bit. Girls like that."

Whenever a guy struggles with women, he's going to grab on to any vestige of advice and use it to completely make himself over in an attempt to improve his chances with women. At least that is how I USED to be.

Then you realize, some woman will like you just for who you are. And that there's not much wrong with you after all.

Respect isn't as simple as "defeating" or dominating another. Depending on the individual you're debating with, respectful delivery, knowledge and valid points matter.

Apparently the topic of discussion went right over your head.

I firmly believe that even though calling women out on the occasionally ridiculous things they do and say does promote respect. They see you as in charge and when.they know you won't put up with any BS they respect that.

When you get called out on your BS, do you also respect the woman in question?

Only if I can ride you as a float.

 A bit off topic, but I often see these kinds of comments from you in threads when responding to women...you do know in real life that if you say this to a grown-up woman who has any ounce of self respect, who doesn't have some personal sexually playful relationship already established with you already or whatever, she will find this disrespectful and barf-worthy right? Just checking...

Hmmm...crickets chirping from Keenly.

How about the rest of you guys, promoting self-respect? One or two sided?
