His 'contact' with her consisted of as little verbal communication as necessary; he made sure that when he spoke to her it was entirely work driven, and nothing else, and he ignored all and any attempts, overtures, conversation-starters, small-talk, private & personal conversations and absolutely all and everything to do with them as a couple. Blanked it off. Avoided eye-contact and acted deaf. She was left talking to empty air. At first, she would insult him, call him childish, throw a derisory strop, and try to belittle him in front of others. But he had forewarned his colleagues of his intentions and reasons. And in order to help him move on, he made sure they ignored her too....So after a while, she noted that absolutely nothing she said or did had the slightest effect. It didn't take long, it worked.
