today is 36 days of no contact..just over 5 weeks. It was my birthday this past sunday and my ex sent me a kind email at the end of the day which said:

I wanted to wish you a very happy birthday ! No more teens you have begun your 20's. I hope you had a great birthday today and I hope all is going well with work and school.

Best wishes,

ex

She and I kind of split mutually, although she pushed for it in the end (which is ironic because the whole relationship she was overly clingy and wanting to be with me for a long time). That was the first form of contact we had. Now, that was three days ago and I have yet to respond. My grandmother died a day before my birthday, and i have spent the last four days grieving and attending her funeral and seeing family.

I do plan on responding, but my mother says I am too vulnerable right now and it would be better if I either did not respond or let her respond as a middle man for me, saying I appreciate the email and did not respond because I am dealing with a death in the family. She wants to do this so I dont get myself sucked back into talking to her again.

Yea, I cant help it, I still am in love with her. And I know my ex and I am sure she calculated the birthday email carefully, from the time she sent it to the "best wishes" stuff (she doesnt write like that normally, thats the type of stuff i write haha). But what do you guys think about this? Its still hard for me to actually let go, even though i have diligently stuck to no contact.

Firstly sorry on the loss of your grandmother

Your mother may be right leave the ex alone for the moment

If its genuine and she is interested in getting back she will make contact

Again.

Or if u feel stronger maybe reply but I'd say wait.

Your family may need support and help right now

And bringing drama with the ex may not be good

Hope your ok..

Look after your family let the dumper wait for now

thanks, that sounds like good advice. I do want to reply at some point because that was a nice, mature little email she wrote me and I feel acknowledging her by saying thanks is the mature thing to do. However, its definitely too soon for me to even do that (because the grandmother's passing has left me drained and very vulnerable). But I will, just am not sure if I should or should have my mother send her a quick text to continue no contact for myself.

Personally leave it for now.. U dont want her pity anyway

Get yourself sorted and when ur better you can make contact and

Explain what has happened but I'd say she will be back in touch

Again. Keep your chin up
