So JCrew... I take it you're ignoring the advice/help offered to you?

Okay, Don't Cook, but do other hobbies like reading, football, and yoga to meet women.

Just spend money on restaurants but no sushi or exotic foods.

You're not even listening.

If that's your attitude then good luck, you won't be finding any women any time soon.

Why are you so anti-cooking? Are you that conservative? Does it signify supplication?

I do hobbies to meet women. Otherwise I would just sit on my butt all day and play videogames. I know that sounds dumb, but I don't need that much to keep me happy. Why would I want to waste my time reading dumb crap or pursuing sports I don't care about. If I'm going to take the time to learn a new hobby, its going to be a hobby that will make me a better boyfriend, not other things no one cares about, I don't have the time to waste on stupid pointless hobbies.

So, cooking does two things - it gets me fed, and it impresses girls.

Don't tell me you and every guy in high school, just learned to play the guitar because you like music. Not because women and groupies love rock bands.

Personally, I prefer to do the majority of the cooking. I'm a nurturing person by nature and love the warm, fuzzy feeling I get from cooking my boyfriend a meal he really enjoys.

Not that a guy who likes cooking would be a turn off, it's just not necessarily a turn on.

But, of course, as Kiwi pointed out early in the thread...women are humans. We are all different. I nearly laughed out loud when I read this part of your OP:

Are women also "Foodies" who like to try new restaurants? Is Sushi really popular with women? Or is Italian a safer bet?

Are you really asking what kind of food women like as a general question? Come on, surely you have to realize how silly that is. You could meet a woman one day who is a "foodie" and a very adventurous eater, and the next day you could meet a woman who won't even touch seafood. Some women love Italian food, some think it's okay, and some hate it. Some women love Ethiopian food. Personally, I love Asian (Thai, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese equally) and Mid-Eastern food the most. Please tell me that you understand that food preferences are not a gender-specific quality. This is pretty elementary. Ask a girl you are getting to know what kind of food she likes, and take her out for that. Pretty simple.

I don't think Estate was saying that there's anything wrong with cooking - it's just that EVERYthing you do seems to be prefaced by, "Will SINGLE women like it?" Well, nobody can tell you that! It turns some women on and it turns some women off. If you like it, do it. For you.

EXACTLY!!!

Yes, everyone has to eat... yeah, telling someone "I can cook" sounds like a nice to have but it's not gonna be the difference between her going out with you or not.

Like, what if you devote your time to becoming an incredible Italian food chef and she hates Italian? What do you do then???

I mean, cooking is not hard. Just google a recipe and make it, anyone can do it. Do you really need to spend so much time on it?

Is there not a million other things you can work on to make yourself more attractive, physically and personality wise?

I mean, an hour in the gym a day or going for a run or doing some kind of exercise is surely worth it? No? Are you are glorious physical specimem already? But no... you can't go the gym, because you ahve to spend 8 hours a day there to be some meat head apparently... that's your logic!!!

The point is.... JUST HAVE A LIFE... I don't care if you don't like reading or some sports, you must like SOMETHING... just do it, now you have something to keep you occupied and something to talk about and something which makes you unique... it's not about doing it to make girls like you!

Just doing ANYTHING instead of what you're doing is more attractive to EVERYONE!!!

I mean, come on! Every girl doesn't like X thing. Girls just like guys who are interesting and have a life... it doesn't matter that it is.

I race cars... do you think girls give a crap about that? Hell no! But I have some cool stories to tell and am really excited to talk about it so it draws people in when I do...

You're just trying too hard!

Going back to the suit thing... YES it's a great thing that you want to look good... but look at a few fashion web sites, see what's in fashion right now.... a suit is not what you need.

It's like you want this magic pill that doesn't exist.

Do you even approach and talk to girls? Like REALLY???? Just do it.

I love cooking, though with work, etc, having a girl cook for me is very, very nice.

Though I'm not a female, I'll say that cooking well could potentially show a partner other things about you... The same as being a talented, tasteful (no pun intended) artist or musician might. Or having a very sensual, natural feel for massage. Or having an articulate, artful way with words. Maybe being a graceful, deft athlete or dancer.

Feel me ?

It's one more art in which to exhibit a certain type of intelligence necessary to do it well. And again, your unique sense of taste (not tongue-taste). It's rare that a moron is gonna cook some tasty, complex yet delicately flavorful dish. Though he might make good ribs (the culinary equivalent of being a weightlifter athletically :))...

As a guy, and I think most guys are this way, we just don't really care to be adventurous foodies. Women say that guys don't know how to plan dates or choose restaurants or try anything new - and honestly, that's just because if it was up to the guy, we just don't care about that kind of stuff. We don't care about trying weird new exotic foods. Many guys are happily content eating burgers, steak and potatos, wings, pizza, and simple stuff.

Then we have to deal with women and girlfriends expecting us to go to fancy expensive exotic restaurants.

So I could care less about what women eat, but I want to find out what kind of weird, crazy expectations women have on their favorite foods and restaurants, so I can mentally prepare to trying adventurous exotic foods.

And to the clueless guys out there, most (but not all) women love to try exotic foreign foods like sushi, thai, etc. So be prepared to take them out to these type of restaurants.

What if you like to cook burgers, but you date a woman who is a vegetarian? Why would you waste your time learning how to cook foods with meat, when you are upsetting a vegetarian?

Why would you want to marry a wife who didn't know how to cook or didn't want to have children and hated babies? Why are you trying to be a better person and caring husband? No woman wants a man who can cook for himself.

Video games is actually a great hobby to have. There are many girls who are into games these days. They really love men who are good at Starcraft, and can talk about it for hours. Just do something you enjoy, don't worry about whether women like it or find it immature or obnoxious. As long as you are happy playing video games, then women will flock to you, trust me.

Really? That's quite the blanket statement. I've known just as many, if not maybe more, adventurous eater guys than girls. Both my college ex and the guy I was with for several years after absolutely loved trying new stuff - stuff that I wasn't even adventurous enough for at the time. My one ex used to love Vietnamese and Ethiopian food - which I now enjoy - but at the time, I thought he was nuts.

Just because a guy is content eating a burger doesn't mean he might not have a more adventurous side, too. Same goes for women. I absolutely love pizza. I could probably eat it every day if I had to. But I also love trying new and exciting foods. It's not something I do every day, but it is something fun to do on the weekends or while on vacation. Enjoying comfort food and being able to appreciate adventurous food are not mutually exclusive qualities.

Exotic and foreign does not necessarily equal expensive.

Have you ever been to a Thai restaurant? At most of the ones I've been to, you get gigantic portions of whatever dish you order for under $10. My favourite Thai place's Pad Thai is $6.99 and the leftovers last me for 2 more meals.

Sushi is pricey, yes, but just as many women dislike sushi as women who like it. I'd say 65% of my friends won't touch it unless it's cooked (in which case it's not really sushi). On the other hand, I know tons of guys who absolutely love the stuff (and it's really expensive for them since they need several rolls to fill them up). My boyfriend loves sushi way more than I do (I like it, but have to be in the mood for it).

Overall I think you're making a lot of generalizations that just aren't really accurate. I think you're assuming that because you personally aren't an adventurous eater, that that quality is somehow linked to the fact that you have a penis. Just not the case.

Being able to cook is definately impressive to many women. One of the things that sealed the deal when I was dating my husband before we were married is that he made me dinner, and it was pretty good. It's also one of the things my daughter-in-law admires about my son, and which she finds an attractive quality.

Are you giving US advice now or was that all just sarcasm? I can't even tell anymore.

My ex was a pretty good cook. She whipped up really good ethnic foods from her native lands (The Phillipines) and was well versed in American desserts and dishes as well. I, on the other hand, am pretty good at making a number of dishes from around the world and that was always a benefit. I exposed her to a more diverse type of food and well, that was always a great thing to share. I think it does help if you know how to at least cook something to change up the pace.

I'm sure that it isn't a dealbreaker though...

I don't know. I just see a lot of stories from women that say their boyfriend never knows where to take her on dates and doesn't want to try new things. I think the Foodie culture is more in the urban areas where there are a lot of foreign restaurants as options. If a guy is more interested in eating a lot of meat like steaks, bbq, chicken, and burgers then he will stick with more american foods. He might be trying to gain weight for sports reasons.

I can cook fairly well...I just don't. I don't get the rush out of it that some people do. For me, it's just throwing ingredients together, and I don't really care about making things from scratch.

My girlfriend, however is a fantastic cook. She can make pretty much anything, and she's really good at making things from scratch, or varying recipes with something she has handy. She likes to "compete" with her mother, who is almost 60, and a heck of a cook herself. So I usually just let her go to town, because she loves it, finds it stress relieving, etc. I'll cook if she's tired, but it will usually be something simple and quick.

We kind of have an in-joke that I'm not allowed to cook because I burn things. Not food, mind you, but I'm the one who microwaves plastic wrap and fills the house with smoke on a fairly regular basis because I do things like forget that the toaster doesn't work, or leave a pot of soup on the stove for an hour.

I have found, though, that because she likes cooking so much, she expects me to be "into" the food on the same level she is. So "mmm, this is really good" doesn't quite cut it anymore.

No. There isn't some magically food you can make me that gets me "mouth-watering wet" I don't even know what that means...

No, but there is one food guaranteed to dry a woman up.......wedding cake. ;)

Yesterday morning I put a pork shoulder in the slow cooker. After 7 hours I took out the meat and shredded it with forks then put it back in the crockpot. I added about two bottles of Stubb's Original BBQ sauce and stirred it in and let it cook for another 2 hours.

It'll Make You Want to Smack Your Mama™

Last night I served my gf BBQ sandwiches on big wheat buns with side items of cole slaw, home fries (red jacket potatoes chopped up and seasoned with Mrs. Dash and baked), and creamed corn. She ate two sandwiches and this girl eats like a bird. :D

Today I took some of the BBQ pork and made carnitas with rolled up tortillas, diced green peppers and tomatoes. We had chips and salsa and a six pack of Coronas and went for a picnic lunch at my spot in the country. :)

Oooh, missed this thread. I'm a guy who knows how to cook. My mother was a chef and I spent lots of time in the kitchen learning a few things here and there, but mostly just eating. :)

It impresses the ladies. :)

Is this a serious question? YES, YES, YES!

I love to eat, food and people are my two favorite things in the whole wide world!

Huge turn on for me and all the women I know, you can't go wrong with cooking.
