mammasita Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I love dogs, I have 2. He dislikes dogs, his pet peeve is having dogs jump all over him and thinks they are too much of a hassle to own. Would this be a deal breaker for you?

ltjg45 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Nope. I love dogs and cats. Esp. if they are pups and kittens. Now, if there was 3-4+ dogs or cats or like 6-8+ total animals in all, there may be a problem. 1
Janesays Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I wouldn't date a man who didn't love dogs. But I also don't let my dogs jump all over people. How about you train them? 5
Balzac Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 For me the deal dealbreaker would be "jumping all over"! I love dogs. I abhor any dog that jumps at me. How any dog and owner relate to each other is ok but that's my feeling on it. If your dog relationship is free n easy why endure life w a guy who cannot embrace it?
Author mammasita Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 I never said MY dogs jumped all over people. I agree its annoying to have dogs jumping on me, especially if Im dressed up and/or have nylons on.
Author mammasita Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 A man who dislikes dogs? Stop dating homosexuals Yeah, he is kinda pretty now that I think about it. I've never encountered a man who didn't like dogs. Its weird.
Drseussgrrl Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Is this the dude who lives at home? And no I would absolutely not date anyone who didn't like dogs. I have a golden retriever and anyone who couldn't accept her as part of my life pretty much just sucks.

He also said he goes dutch on first dates.
Drseussgrrl Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Bwaahahahah! Yes, this is the dude that lives at home at age 37. He also said he goes dutch on first dates. Wow. Sounds like a real prince charming. Lives with his parents, hates dogs and goes Dutch. I want to punch this dude in the face and I don't even know him. 5
AMusing Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 It's his choice whether dogs are a dealbreaker for him. I guess for some guys it would be, but then why would you want to date a guy like that? How he handles himself around dogs should impact whether his dislike for them is a dealbreaker for you. There is a big difference between a guy who whines about dog hair, dog breath, or muddy paws, or even--god forbid--hints he wants you to get rid of your dogs (HUGE dealbreaker) and and a guy who doesn't understand why you'd want them but is good-natured about your obligations and love for them. I mean, there is something missing in someone's soul if he doesn't like dogs (mostly kidding), but how he handles dogs will tell you a lot about his personality.

TouchedByViolet Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I am more of a cat person... they are just so cute and evil I like dogs and if I had one and a person told me they are too much hassle to own that would be a deal breaker.
carhill Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Having owned a lot of animals, they can be a fair amount of work. I can see that part of his concerns, especially if he likes to travel. Presuming the dogs are young and healthy, I would see few reservations. Regarding behaviors, animals do what they do. Some of it can be trained but their behaviors are part of the enjoyment of owning them, IMO. Last time I was around dogs at a lady's home, two of them ended up laying on me or next to me and another at my feet, while she looked on. For some reason I'm an animal magnet. Women, not so much
normal person Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Dogs are a potential deal maker for me. If a girl has an awesome dog, or at least an awesome taste in dogs, she instantly goes up in my book. 4
Jane2011 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I love dogs, I have 2. He dislikes dogs, his pet peeve is having dogs jump all over him and thinks they are too much of a hassle to own. Would this be a deal breaker for you? I can't say it'd be a deal breaker, seeing as how my ex-boyfriend from a few years ago wasn't crazy about dogs, and I had a dog, and I didn't break up with him. But I do prefer a guy who has affection toward animals, especially dogs. I think it's important that people in a relationship show some respect/love toward the other's pet, because the pet is like family, and it hurts when your bf or gf holds the pet in disdain. My boyfriend has a cat, and I've never been crazy about cats, but I also don't hate them. I don't like when the cat hops up on the bed and is in my face and takes me by surprise, but it's just that thing. In general, I think the cat is adorable and well-behaved, and I like holding him and looking at his cute face. I show endearment toward the cat even though I don't like when he jumps near my face (occasionally). It's not "fake," even though I'm not crazy about cats. His cat is sort of an exception. I think his cat is cuter and sweeter than most.

JamesM Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I love dogs, I have 2. He dislikes dogs, his pet peeve is having dogs jump all over him and thinks they are too much of a hassle to own. Would this be a deal breaker for you? Absolutely. If your dogs and cats are important to you, then it is quite possible that at some point you will have arguments over them. My wife does NOT like dog fur. SO...the dogs we chose have short hair (boxers). The dogs can be a hassle to own, but I am in charge and always have been. Having said that, people do change. My wife was not much of an animal lover when we met. I still am much more of one than her. However, she has learned to love individual animals over the years. Yet if I didn't want them, then she wouldn't. We have had five or six cats, two dogs, and a bunch of fish over the years. She loves our dog and enjoys watching my fish. When we dated, I never thought to ask as I didn't have any at the time...except fish. Personally, I would definitely consider it something major. If he won't budge, then it will be a problem over and over. You will never have dogs or cats anymore, or he will be always complaining.
Author mammasita Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Agree 100% @ JamesM. I never thought I would encounter a man who didn't like dogs......It's pretty strange to me.
fortyninethousand322 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 I'm fine with dogs (though big dogs are a bit of a hassle IMO, but not horrible or anything). And I have a dog. Thing is, he doesn't play well with others (meaning other dogs) so that would probably be an issue. Of course, he's technically not my dog, he's the family dog. But still, could be a deal breaker if a girl didn't agree to keep them separated at all times.
JamesM Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Agree 100% @ JamesM. I never thought I would encounter a man who didn't like dogs......It's pretty strange to me. BTW, I like your avatar! I find it odd, too. Do you know why...besides it being a hassle? One of my sons is not fond of animals. He tolerates ours, but I think he simply finds them "filthy." Weird to say because I am the opposite. I also think he is a bit nervous around them even though he has been raised with cats and dogs. Could this guy have some sort of minor phobia about dogs, cats, or other animals?

A guy who lights up when I tell him about my dogs, immediately goes up in my book! An ex used to bring dog treats or toys every time he came over, in order to win their affection. He said knew he had to be good with them to be good with me. I loved it.
