Why do parents always make excuses for younger siblings?

I've found parents always do this. Why dont they make younger siblings take equal amount of responsibility? Why don't parents expect the same high expectations career wise, for younger siblings?

Actually my father expected more of me than my older brother

Yeah, I was the only girl between two brothers.

 

The expectations for me were different, and I was expected to do better than either - because as a girl then, you had to achieve 110%, in order to be considered as good as a guy achieving 90%.
