I wasn't aware that Christian denominations founded centuries ago had a charter statement supporting gay marriage. If that really is the case I would find that fascinating.

I can't believe you are not aware that there are entire churches that support gays to the extent that they put up flags outside of their church in representation of this

I don't keep lists of how far various denominations choose to ignore various parts of scripture to cater to society's whims, no. But my point in the last post was that I seriously doubt any of the denominations in question supported gay marriage in their charter statements however many centuries ago. But if indeed there are denominations now openly supporting gay marriage, then you are indeed correct that the OP may find success by going to those places. Then my question would be - why didn't you tell her this in the first place?

I cede the point. You may very well be correct that she could find more success than I had thought. I must have underestimated modern Christians' confusion level when it came to their own religion.

It is the OP to whom you are responding RIGHT NOW!

She, and many other people already know this. Her thread has been hijacked when somebody posted that she was being hypocritical in seeking a Christian who would not oppose gay rights or beat her over the head with a bible - and then others, including me (sorry) participated in the hijack bigtime by responding to those claims.

EH is clearly aware that there are very lovely Christian people who will fulfill her wish in these regards. Mostly not Evangelical or Fundamentalists, though.

Oh. Well, if she knew the denominations, why include Catholic in the OP? Or do they support gay marriage now too? But yeah you're right, this discussion is now pointless.

I'll just end with - the practicing Christians I know IRL don't support gay marriage. Or if they do it's something like 10%. That's why I foresaw a problem of percentages. I guess I know a larger percentage of people who claim to be Christian but support gay marriage. I don't consider them actually "Christians" though. NOT because of their belief about gay marriage, but simply because I think they are just people who wear the label because it's expected or fashionable, rather than a legitimate belief.

well that is your opinion. You would never date someone who supports gay rights and I would never date someone who would make a statement saying who is or isn't a real Christian. So, there you go.

Haha there are probably Christians who say I'm not really Christian for being "unequally yoked" (married to a Muslim). Whatever. Haters gonna hate haha.

Actually a lot of things wrong with that. First off I don't recall saying I wouldn't date anyone who supported gay marriage, let alone gay rights. I DID say I wouldn't date an ultra liberal, but I don't believe one must be ultra liberal to support gay marriage. Secondly it's another debate as to whether "gay rights" should include "gay marriage" and it's wrong to simply assume one MUST lead to the other. For the record I believe gays, polygamists and incestuous couples should be able to do whatever they want as consenting adults, and I would condemn any act of violence or discrimination (like job or housing discrimination for example) against "alternative lifestyle" people. I even personally believe that people should be allowed to have sex with animals. Who is it hurting? We kill and eat animals for meat, where's the logic in denying people sex with them? There's no logic in that. I don't judge people for what their desires are. I DO however judge them when they want to change the society I live in to legitimize and accommodate their own desires. There's a big difference between people having the individual freedom to do what they want in private, and forcing society to openly elevate their sexual choices to the level of marriage. There's a big difference between Tom, Dick, Harry and Jessica having the individual freedom to have the polygamist sex and lifestyle they want, and bringing them in front of an elementary school or sunday school class to tell my kids how wonderful and normal the polygamist lifestyle is.

As for "who is a real Christian" you're right it's not Christian to judge that. However, I never said I was a Christian. If god wants to come down and set me straight, he certainly has the power to do that, if he exists. I welcome it. Until then I'll make the judgment calls that my intellect and conscience dictate. And yes, there are many people in all religions who go through the motions, wear the label and don't truly believe or practice it.

For your sake I would think about that and what kind of "Christian" you are looking for. Why ARE you looking for a Christian in the first place, if you hold such a liberal slant? Seems like you want to take advantage of the benefits of someone raised with Christian values and teachings while trying to avoid some of the common things associated with those teachings that you violently disapprove of. It actually seems a bit hypocritical now that I think about it. Like you want to enjoy the benefits of a society raising people with beliefs that you don't actually support or believe in. Just my perception of it anyway.

Don't bother answering me, it doesn't affect me. It's just a question you need to answer for yourself.
