Could use a dream interpreter for this one

We've all had dreams about the ex... this is NOT one of those. I have been missing the connection and relationship, but not him as a person. After the loss of my dad a couple weeks ago, I've been thinking more about my life and how to move forward.

The dream:

I am on a ship, seems to be just floating out at sea. There are items floating in the water and I am trying to collect them. I got the impression that my boat was fine and the items were from an old shipwreck (items were historical artifacts). I go inside the boat into a room that looks like my parent's living room. There, I see two finches atop a cage. I put my arm out hoping they'll fly to me. They do, but land on my shirt near my stomach. I then see a cage with two ferrets. Suddenly a fox jumps up and snatches one of the ferrets and runs into the next room. I am holding the second ferret and run after the fox. I know the first ferret is dead and I consider for a moment letting the fox have the ferret I am holding because I know it will be heartbroken without it's mate. Just as I am considering that the fox lets out the most horrifying sound as it's eating the first ferret. In my dream, this sounds like a loud lion's roar. It startles me so much and sounds so loud I actually woke up and jumped straight up in bed. I have NEVER jumped up in bed like that.

I fell back asleep and had another dream that a woman opened my car door and slowly stabbed me. She was a stranger, in her 60s, and had red hair.

I can usually link dreams with something I have seen, read, or talked about. The animals and their actions obviously symbolize something, I'm just not sure what. And the stabbing seems unrelated to the first dream, still really bothered me though.

Anyone have thoughts?

I am not a professional psychoanalyst but I know plenty about dreams. The ocean or sea is life. Fluid, forever changing, dangerous and beautiful. The boat is essentially you. Your psyche. It appears to be safe from the outside perspective but upon entering its hull you start to delve deeper into yourself. Birds represent freedom. The stomach your intuition. You know you will soon be free but you must face obstacles to get there.

The fox is a clever creature. Representing unexpected loss when he eats the ferret. You thought about letting him have the couple of ferret after the first was taken from you. The first being your ex, the second you. But you didn't give him the other ferret, though it wouldve been easier. You won't give in. Good girl.

You were very involved in this dream. Its evident by you remembering so much detail and waking yourself up by hearing something in the dream. To me this indicates a higher intellect. A self awareness which most only dream of. You are probably very analytical and sensitive to stimuli though at times you convince yourself not to be.

The second dream is shirt and strange. You feel vulnerable to things outside your control. The red hair and the fact you can recall colors in your dreams is indicative of a great imagination.

To quote the best movie ever:

"Dude! Where do you get your weed?"

"From you, Dante."

It might be nice to think dreams have some deep meaning but they dont.

My love goes out to you and your family.

I don't believe dreams predict the future or should be analyzed and used to make life changes/choices. I believe they come from the mind, which is processing all of the stimuli we're exposed to, good or bad, consciously or unconsciously. This dream was one of the most bizarre I have ever had. Not just the content, but the details, and the fact that I felt as though I actually heard a loud noise. Those images were triggered somehow. They mean something, but I may never know what.

Sweetkiwi, you are awesome! Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts. I find your interpretation very interesting and insightful.

From the time I was very young I always had very intense and often horrifying dreams. Being able to make sense of them was the only way I could sleep.

Your feelings in the dreams mean more than the visual cues. Focus on positive things before bed and you'll see a marked improvement in the tone of your dreams.
