....they start making multiple jokes about drinking or they bust your chops for not drinking.

I was at this bonfire event/party, and there was this one woman I was talking to, from the sounds of it, she had no real hobbies, except for going out to bars or upscale nightclubs, but she thought a bonfire was a good change of venue.

She noticed I had a bottled water in my hand, and started teasin' me about me drinking water...it's cute at first, but then they do it multiple times in one evening, then follow it up with , I"m just kidding, just kidding, it's cool that you don't drink"

Actually, I do socially drink, I just didn't feel like that evening.

And some of her jokes revolve around her drinking or something, "Oh man, if i get a few in me....I can sing some kareoki!"

"Whew, after last night, I can't even remember what happened"

One too many jokes or quips about that, and you know the person has the kind of lifestyle that mostly entails drinking of Cosmo's and not missing any ladies nights or happy hours.

I've noticed this with quite a few people in general, that drinking is just part of their vernacular. Anyone notice this?

Should have just told her you were drinking absinthe, maybe she would have left you alone.

I've noticed it over the years, I figure it's because they don't want to be the only ones drunk, or have anyone remember what they did or sometimes they don't think you're capable of having fun unless you too have a hangover the next morning.

Had one friend who just wouldn't take no for an answer. "Want a beer?" No, thanks. Beer magically appears. "Sure you do". OK, THANKS!

Also a social drinker but, there are people who become intolerable once they "Have a few" she kind of sounds like one.

At least you know what she is about. I would not click with a person's who's life revolves around getting wasted.

They call you in the middle of the night while drinking/drunk, consistently.

They forget interactions

Their days and nights are reversed

They look for a place to buy booze after the bars close

They pass out in their dinner plate

Yes, many people enjoy drinking. I don't see how you can possibly know if this woman is a "lush" or not though.

If the women you met asked you out, would you have gone out with her? Or would you have been too turned off by the conversation you had with her?

There are some women who either have social drinks, or will get drunk once in a while...but they also have a life. They work, do things, have hobbies and interests.

Then there are those who are empty shells. They look beautiful, seem outgoing, and yet you find they work menial jobs, have no long-term goals other than marry/"be taken care of", and it seems all they do in their personal time is shop, party, and have sex.

Mistake many men make is they think they can "tame" those women into girlfriends, when they should pass on them and go for the ones I spoke of with hobbies/careers/goals.

Frankly, as long as you're not a judgmental prude, people shouldn't give flack to non-drinkers. Lord knows I'm hitting 40 and prefer a nice cup of coffee over a drink.

Threads like these make me worry I'm going out too much.

I'm single for the first time since I was 17 and I go out every night. I may not get drunk but when I get off work I almost always go I my favorite pub if nothing more exciting is planned. But I'm also going to a difficult private school, work a full time job, have lots of hobbies and interests and a really awesome internship. And I volunteer twice a week. I just hope decent guys won't hold my drinking/partying against me.

My youngest brother snuck into his g/f's parents house and got drunk with her. When he went to the bathroom, he went back into the wrong room and sat on her parents bed while they were in it. That's when you know you're a lush. :p

When someone has multiple DUI's, blames the cop every single time, and then drinks a six-pack while driving home from the beach - they might be a lush.

I wouldn't worry.

You come off as an interesting attractive woman with a life. Trust me, a rational adult will see the difference between an outgoing woman versus a girl with nothing to offer anyone other than a pretty face and sexual skill.

It's the same with guys btw. There are men who have lives, do interesting things, and such...and there are guys who seemingly only are about looking good, possibly making big money, and getting laid.

It would have been awesome if he had tried to hook up with the mom.
eww. Actually they were such lushes themselves it barely registered. The old man said, "Joey, be a good boy now"--like he needed a little more blood in his alcohol system.

You are not a lush. A lush is somebody who can't enjoy themselves without being wasted and thinks the night isn't complete if they aren't puking their guts up on the sidewalk.

i have a problem with alcohol, one is it goes against who i want to be , it affects my judgement and my body cant handle it......was never meant to handle it......i hate the tatse i drank to forget who i was.......what i did.....and then allowed myself to be used and could do things that are abhorrent to my nature...i dont think alcohol is funny......i think it kills hearts...was i a lush? probably....i dont particularly liek the word either.....it has sexual connotations to me...especially when guys say it....its a bit dark ...and lush is meant to be abundantly good..maybe its just me that feels that sexual aspect.....for a particular reason..i think everyone has a choice whether to drink or not is theirs and theirs alone to do it or not....and its not a joke...it kills people families and relationships....ask the drink driver who ran down someone..or the husband he beat his partner into submission after blacking out on rum.....happens all the time...deb

I couldn't be with a girl who likes going out every weekend to bars, clubs and pubs, purely because I am past that stage in life.
