Here's the rundown:

I'm in college. I met and studied with a girl a a couple times last semester. I really like her and we had great conversation. Since I've come back from winter break I ran into her a couple times and we agreed we should get dinner and catch up sometime. We were texting back and forth about when would be a good time but because of her busy schedule we couldn't find a time. So a couple weeks have gone by and she texted me out of the blue to see if I wanted to grab dinner. We're going to a pizza joint/Italian restaurant that's nearby and convenient. It's a nice place with dim-ish lighting, but it's college town so there's no mandatory attire at this restaurant (i.e. I could wear a tank and shorts if I so preferred... on the other hand, a suit and tie wouldn't look out of place). So here's my question... IS THIS A DATE AND WHAT DO I WEAR? Or is it just two friends catching up. Never once did either of us explicitly use the word "date" (as much as I'd like it to be one. But hey, she did text *me*!). So do I go with my best dark blue jeans, nice tee, and a plaid long-sleever, or slightly more casual and forget the plaid nonsense, going with a jacket that I'd normally wear. I'm realizing now how absurd this question is, especially because it's the difference between a single article of clothing, but at the moment it feels like the most important question in the world. Or should I be wearing something entirely different?!

Thanks so much for your help!

In my opinion:

Is it a date or two friend's catching up?

I know this doesn't help that much, but I think you two need to spend more time with each other to shade in the gray areas. A friend date could be just a casual thing to catch up on news with each other.

What do you wear?

Wear something that makes you look like a man and not a chump. What does she wear usually? Dress to impress.

if in doubt about what to wear and there is no dress code....its smart casual all the way,

blazer or jacket with a t shirt covered shoes, slacks or smart jeans no rips jeans....doesnt matter if it is a date or two friends goign out...its the venue and the time...i am assuming its night....so i would suggest smart casual ...no tie....

I think it's an almost-date. You know where you're figuring out if you like each other enough for an actual date but have the "just as friends" escape clause if necessary to save awkwardness. But it's a guy and a girl who don't have much history and no one else and dinner... If you kiss her at the end then it automatically makes it a date ;)

I love how excited you are BTW it's completely gorgeous!
