I spend way more now, with my gf than before, dinners and outings,
ascendotum Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 In the early years of your relationship you do tend to spend more on recreational activities. Singles however consume more resources. 2 dwellings are needed. 2 lots of utility bills, 2 cars (tho many couples still have 2 these days), 2 lots of insurance, 2 lots of any finance, 2 lots of holiday bookings, 2 lots of furniture, etc. Singles also do a lot socializing (booze + clubs + music concerts) till fill their life and to meet a partner/s. I read an article in a finance magazine that said a couple could be over $20k better off a year if they moved in together (and that was quite a few yrs back now). When couple do move in they tend to save, so there is less $ going into consuming transactions. Having more people consume more services + products is not everyone's definition of a better economy but for big business and their politicians it is.
